The #1 Mistake You’ve Been Making That Blocks Your Intuition
Have you ever made a decision based on a fear that if you didn’t do this one thing you’d miss out on something?
If you relate to this story you might be making this mistake too.
A coaching client* mentioned that she was having doubts about a man she was in the early stages of a relationship with.
This lovely woman was divorced and happy to be free from a terrible marriage. After her divorce she moved clear across the country to get as far away from her ex as possible. She loved her new home, neighbors and job and met a nice new man not long after moving.
Things seemed to be perfect at first. He was a widower with several grown children living near the Gulf Coast. He loved his family and spoke about how close they all were. They had many interests in common and he was respectful and took things slow which my client appreciated. He was worldly, having traveled to many different countries and had many stories to share. He loved the opera and the arts and volunteering at charity organizations.
She was in heaven! Who had sent this angel of a man to her?
Since meeting him she had been coaching with me to find her life purpose. She wanted to create a new life that she loved now that she’d escaped her unhappy marriage. During our sessions she’d been updating me on her progress with him.
Every session she asked me if I got any “vibes” about him.
I did. And, they weren’t good. I didn’t see it being a “happily ever after scenario.”
I got the feeling that he was hiding things from her and that he wasn’t what he appeared to be. I also got a strong feeling that she should be very cautious with him.
As it turned out one day he picked up and moved to the Gulf Coast. He told her via text that he missed his children and decided to move back to where they lived. She was disappointed but, I was relieved.
She attributed his inability to be open and share with her as a sign of caring for her feelings. She believed he had been planning on moving back to where his children lived for some time and that he hadn’t told her to spare her feelings.
I saw what he had done as devious and very controlling. He toyed with her and then left her flat. I didn’t like the vibes I got from that at all.
A few weeks later she told me that she’d been texting with him since he moved. He wants her to come and visit him but not right now……he is quite busy, he says, because the g-men are after him. Years ago he got into trouble with the law and ever since he has been hounded by the government so, he has to keep a low profile and keep on moving and cannot even see his children.
Okay, now I have to call a spade a spade right so I say, “This person is a paranoid weirdo. Cut off all contact – now!”
“But, what if it’s true? Except for this he is really nice.”
Now this is where the #1 Intuition blocking mistake comes in……
“Tell me,” I ask, “what does your gut say about him?”
“Well, it sounds kind of fishy to me too.”
“How fishy?” I ask.
“Mmm, pretty fishy – like whack job fishy.” She pauses and then says, “I texted him back after a couple of days of this stuff and told him I didn’t believe him.”
“So, then why are you considering keeping the lines of communication open?” I ask.
“‘Cause maybe, you know, he might be telling the truth and there are a lot of things about him I like.”
And there is the #1 Mistake: Fear of Missing Out on Something
What was happening was that my client was afraid that she was going to miss out if she let this guy go. She was letting her fear and belief in lack override her intuition – which was right on the money. Instead of believing in herself and her worthiness and that there are plenty of fish in the sea she is holding onto to this one stinky fish!
She knew what her gut was saying was true all along or she wouldn’t have kept asking me what my vibes were on this guy. She didn’t want to be right. If she was right she would have to walk away from someone who was paying attention to her.
See how we deceive ourselves when we make the #1 mistake that blocks our intuition: Fear missing out on something?
3 Tips to avoid making the #1 mistake that blocks your intuition:
1. Get clear on why you want what you want. Ask yourself if you’re attached to the outcome? If so why?
2. Trust your gut. It always knows! If you feel something is amiss it is, whether you can prove it or not. That’s your spidey sense.
3. Never do something because you fear that if you don’t you’ll miss out and never get another chance. When we make any decision from a place of fear instead of confidence and strength our judgement is compromised.

Intuition & Following the Signs to Your Destiny
Not long ago I had the pleasure of spending 90 minutes doing a very thorough Astrology Life Purpose consultation for a client.
Like many readers of Powered by Intuition she had been unsure of her destiny and life purpose for some time. She was very unhappy in her career and longed for a change but feared making the wrong decision. Her lack of clarity around the purpose of her life kept her stuck in a never ending loop of two steps forward and one step back.
When she finally came to me for the Life Purpose session she was frustrated and nearly ready to give up trying to change her life. She had always been drawn to working with horses but when she got out of college she had taken a good secure job working for local government instead. And that’s what she’d been doing for fifteen years.
Her chart clearly revealed that her strengths, talents and amazing gifts were all geared toward working with animals and that she would meet with great success in these areas if she were to act upon them.
She was delighted with what her chart showed about her destiny and said that it confirmed what she had been feeling was right for her all along.
Fear & insecurity suppress your intuition
Many times you have a gut instinct about what your purpose is but your insecurities overshadow and suppress it. Finding your life purpose requires listening to your intuition. There are many signposts along the way during your life but you ignore them usually because of your fears.
For example, in my own life I doubted myself for years. I fell into the trap of believing that because I was good at something (financial sales) that it was my purpose to stay where I was in my “real” job. I’m not saying there is anything wrong with having a “real” job at all. What I want to point out is that many times we ignore our intuitive guidance and don’t trust our instincts because we assume that the conventional norms of society are right rather than trusting our own feelings.
And this is exactly what my client had been doing to herself for years as well. After the reading she began the process of looking into preparing to live out her life purpose. And last I heard from her she was very excited about how thing were coming together.
Asking for and following the signs
Then, I got another email from her. She was confused, upset and feeling insecure about her future again. She had been asking the Universe to provide signs for her that she was on the right track and hadn’t gotten any since right after her reading with me.
Why am I not getting any more signs when I ask for them? I’m afraid I’m making a mistake and I don’t want to throw away a good job and my future without a sign. Does this mean I shouldn’t go forward with my plans?
(She had read my book, “Navigating by Intuition: How to Follow the Signs” and was referring to a method I described about how to ask for specific signs).
Now that she had stopped getting signs she was afraid that she was on the wrong path.
A successful life requires that you develop faith
She had received many signs during her lifetime that she was meant to follow this path. This client had been afraid to act upon them because it would mean that she would eventually have to give up her current job security. So instead she did what many people do – she rationalized that it was “irrational” to do such a thing and began a cycle of constantly questioning her judgement.
Her intuition led her to me and to have an astrological life purpose consultation. When her chart confirmed everything she had been feeling it boosted her faith and confidence immensely. She realized that it wasn’t “irrational” to want to do what she had been longing to do and born to do. Her path was meant to be different from the “norm” in society of having a regular job, and she finally got that there was nothing wrong with that or with her.
The trouble arose when she started bumping up against the wall of her comfort zone. As she began planning how to live her purpose and leave her job her old insecurities rose up again. She began asking for “signs” to reassure her and to quiet the critical voices in her head that feared change and moving beyond her comfort zone.
Let be what is meant to be
The thing is that she had already gotten her biggest sign; that of the astrology life purpose reading which showed her the entire map of her life just as she had been feeling it was meant to be. The session confirmed what she had intuitively been pulled toward her whole life.
At some point you have to be able to go on faith alone. You have to move forward even when you feel scared and insecure. If you keep asking for signs over and over even after receiving one as clear as the life blueprint contained in your astrology chart you are reinforcing your fears rather than moving confidently in the direction of your dreams.
You are telling the Universe that the “biggest” sign wasn’t good enough and that you want to remain scared and stuck. And since the Universe reads your thoughts and feelings it will deliver exactly what you have ordered up – more fear, indecisiveness and remaining stuck in your comfort zone.
Relax and keep going
When you relax and start moving forward on the path toward your destiny the signs will reappear – but don’t wait until they do or build your entire life upon getting a sign otherwise you will remain stuck. You must always continue to move confidently in the direction of your dream even in the absence of a sign.
This is not to say that you should do something rash like quit your job before you save up money or develop a good transition plan. Keep going and taking one step after another in the direction of your destiny and eventually the signs will return.
Always remember that signs reinforce action not inaction.
Have you been holding yourself back? Can you see how fear keeps you stuck? What will you do differently from now on?

Intuition, Life Purpose & Signs: A Double Rainbow is a Very Good Thing!
Yesterday I went for a walk after dinner. It been pouring on and off throughout the day but the dark clouds parted just enough to let the early evening sun through. I saw the sun and quickly put my sneakers on to get out and before it might rain again. For three days it had done nothing but rain so even a charcoal sky with threatening clouds and a ray of sunshine coming through was inviting enough to get me outdoors.
I don’t know about you but several dark rainy days in a row can get me down. I need to see the sun shining. And I need to be out in the sunshine. The last three days of stormy weather brought up the sabotaging voices I’m normally able to keep at bay.
You know the voices I am talking about, don’t you? They may sound something like this:
“What the hell are you doing quitting your job? You’re giving up your health benefits? You’re crazy!”
“It’s such an easy job…..you get to work from home and do what you want most of the time.”
“Why quit? Just keep doing what you’re doing on the side and no one will be the wiser.”
I couldn’t stand the battle going on in my head any longer. The more the rain dragged on the louder the sabotaging voices became. When the sun popped out I jumped at the chance to walk down to a nearby park. Seeing other people would get my attention off of the voices.
Change your scenery
The parking lot was overflowing with cars. Each baseball diamond was in use by local teams and throngs of people watched from the sidelines. Games that had been postponed due to the rain during the week had brought all the teams to play on the same day so the park was unusually full. The grass was soaking wet but it didn’t phase the kids who were playing. They seemed excited to see the sunshine as well.
Ask for a sign
I silently asked the Universe to show me a sign that I wasn’t crazy to quit my job. I knew although I really wanted to focus full time on creating more from Powered by Intuition that thirty years of working in finance and the last 15 from the comfort of home would be hard to walk away from.
Working from home and being a 100 percent commission employee had been my first taste of entrepreneurship. Fifteen years earlier I’d heard the call for more freedom and given up a corporate job. I walked away from a major career to find myself and who I was meant to be.
After going back to school I took a part time job in financial sales and soon found out I was really good at it. I loved not having to go to an office and I loved making my own hours. The terminology didn’t exist then but I now see that what I was drawn to was having a “lifestyle” business.
While selling financial products wasn’t my dream I recognized early on that this job was part of my journey to becoming my own boss. I knew I eventually wanted to be an entrepreneur but what held me back was not knowing my purpose.
Know your purpose
I knew I would never quit my job until I found exactly what I would do instead and had a solid business plan in place. So, I set out on another journey to find my life purpose and destiny. It took some time but, I realized what I was born to do was help others find their life purpose by teaching them to listen to their intuition. I also found a way to help others find their purpose much faster than I had by offering astrological life purpose readings.
Having found the path I was meant to follow my Soul longed to get started doing this work in the world. I wanted to help others stop suffering the way I had. And, this desire pulled at me and nagged at me daily until I finally made the decision to go after my destiny full time.
I fully expected that pushing the boundaries of my comfort zone by giving up my safety net job would produce a lot of fear. To offset my fears and quiet the voices I meditate and use affirmations. This evening I repeated an affirmation from new thought author, Catherine Ponder as I walked the park:
Today is the day, now is the time something wonderful will be mine!
It’s a great affirmation I like to use when I’m walking. The words flow easily in tempo with your steps. After a while it becomes almost hypnotic. I have found it to be very calming. And soon after I began repeating the affirmation I could feel myself relaxing.
Interpret the sign
Five minutes into my walk around the perimeter of the park I started hearing a symphony of “Ooooh!” and “Aaaah” and then “It’s a double rainbow!,” coming from the crowds gathered at the park.
I looked up and sure enough there was a magnificent double rainbow in the sky. Sweet relief poured over me.
I had my sign. Full steam ahead!
It never fails to amaze me how the Universe will support you when you find your purpose and make up your mind to do it. Find the path you were meant to follow and the signs will be there to guide you on your way.

“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”
Paulo Coelho, from The Alchemist
The Law of Attraction: Spending vs. Investing
Did you watch the movie, “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne or read her book? Most of the world now knows about the Law of Attraction thanks to her. Unfortunately, while Byrne did a huge service for the world the depth of the information wasn’t there to accurately convey how to bring more abundance to your life.
There’s a misconception that in order to attract abundance into your life you ought to prime the pump of the LOA by spending money. Perhaps you were told that in order to demonstrate your faith in the Law of Attraction you ought to “dig your ditches before the rain.” This idea originally comes from a passage in the Bible but I first read about it in Florence Scovel Shin’s book, “The Game of Life and How to Play It.”
What Shin meant was that if you’re praying for rain you must take action and dig the ditches to hold the water ahead of the rain. “Digging ditches” clearly communicates that you firmly and unwaveringly have faith in the Universe to bring about what you desire.
You might have misconstrued this advice by first buying the things you wanted as a demonstration that the money to pay for them would then show up. Unfortunately all this does is create debt. “Digging your ditches” symbolizes that you must have the faith and take action toward achieving your goals even when there isn’t a “cloud in the sky” to indicate that it’s going to rain.
There is a difference between spending and investing
Notice though, Shin did not say to go out and use up all the water you have as an act of faith that it would rain and then the water would be replenished. This is what you’re doing when you spend money you don’t have. You’re draining your resources. What Shin advises is to invest your energy and resources in creating a “ditch” or reservoir so that it will hold all the water you need whenever you need it. This is what “investing” does, it becomes a resource that pays you back again and again over time.
Spending money doesn’t garner the same results as investing
For example you see a gorgeous pair of boots and think,”If I buy the boots I’m showing the Universe I trust that the money is coming to pay the credit card bill.” But after you spend the money your life hasn’t changed. You have a nice pair of boots and nothing else to show for it.
When you invest money you take an action that ensures that the money will return a dividend, in other words, pay you back. For example you might be in a 401k retirement program at work. Over time with good investment strategies this investment will grow and be part of the money you live on in retirement.
You might invest in buying a home for the same reason; you anticipate that with time its value will increase so that someday when you sell it you’ll get back more than you spent to buy it. This is also the reason for investing in education. When you learn something useful it contributes to your ability to apply it in a way that the actions taken based on knowledge you received pays you back over time.
In general buying “stuff” for yourself is spending not investing. Clothes, furniture, cars and the like while needed are not investments. Buying something the goes up in value and returns a profit when you sell it is an investment. Examples of some good investments that will improve your life are education, coursework and coaching.
Investing in yourself is the entire premise of self-development. You are developing yourself for something, right? You probably want to learn how to be more successful at life which is to be happier, peaceful, self confident, more capable, loving and a better human being I would imagine.
Invest in yourself instead of spending on yourself
To unlock the power of the Law of Attraction invest in yourself. Investing in your education is one of the best investments you can make. Invest in a course that will help you learn what actions you need to take to create a better life. This will prime the pump of the LOA in your life much more than a one shot purchase such as a pair of boots. To invest in yourself is to dig a ditch and build a reservoir of resources that will pay you back handsomely over time.
Action demonstrates your faith in the Law. You must take the proper action steps. Wishing and visualizing are not enough. Action is how you “seed” the clouds for all that rain. And, if you don’t know what you want that’s a problem. You must know what you want in order to know the proper action steps to take.
Knowing what you want is key
If you aren’t sure of what you want your life to look like and all you think is that you want “abundance” you’re going to be disappointed. Abundance comes in many forms. You’ve got to be specific in order to come up with the action steps to seed your cloud.
Prime the pump of the Law of Attraction
Know what you want. Know your purpose and mission in life and then you will know what actions to take. After all you can’t get there until you know where “there is,” right? Knowing your purpose is having the map to get to your destination. As soon as you are clear on where you want to go the result of every action step taken will yield much more dramatic results toward your ultimate success.
If you are unclear of your purpose invest in yourself. Open the way and seed the cloud toward your abundance by investing not spending on yourself. Find a coach or take a course on how to find your life purpose, read a book on this topic or have a thorough astrological reading of your purpose done.
The sooner you know where you’re heading the sooner you’ll get there!

A conversation about Intuition and Destiny.
I spoke with radio host Victor Schueller about how intuition can lead you to your destiny if you learn to listen to it. (Listen to the recording at the end of this post.)
Your intuition is a built in sense for guiding your through life
The better you become at recognizing your inner guidance the more successful your life will be. Think of your intuition as a “ping” not unlike the ping from a sonar device on a submarine. When you are near danger your intuition pings. When you are discontented with your life you get a ping and when you are on track you get another ping that bubbles up from your soul and makes you want say, “I love my life!” These are the pings that guide you on your journey to find your purpose and destiny.
Your astrology chart is a map of your life
Another way to find your purpose and destiny is to have your astrology chart done. Astrology is a very accurate method for honing in on your destiny. The planets, asteroids, aspects and angles at the time of your birth are unique to you and explain your personality and character traits.
The birth chart will show you what your life purpose is, lessons you need to learn, lessons you’ve mastered, and your gifts and talents. Your chart will also show you whether you are innovator, great business mind, feel most comfortable working from home or whether you need to be out with people. It will clearly show you that you belong in the law field, publishing, or in journalism or some other writing profession.
The chart will show you whether you have the soul of poet, artist or musician or whether you are meant to be in the sciences. It will show you if you have the talent to make wise investments or not or if you’re meant to manage other people. The list is endless. It’s amazing how accurate the chart is.
If you are unsure about your purpose a life purpose reading will give you much needed clarity. You can find your purpose in a very short amount of time. Instead of spending years wondering and spending time in the wrong career you receive immediate confirmation through having your birth chart read.

We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; We are spiritual beings having a human experience. —
(1881 – 1955)
Everyone wants to live a bigger, better more fulfilling and meaningful life. And you can when you learn to listen and follow your intuition.
The role of intuition
Your intuition is guidance that comes directly from your higher self or as some prefer to call it the Soul. Your intuition speaks to you constantly whether you hear it or not. It is always trying to move you in the direction of your highest good by pushing you toward growth so that you can live the bigger life you dream of. When you are stuck in an unhappy point in your life, it’s because you’re not heeding the call from your intuition to grow from one phase of awakening to the next.
Finding your purpose
