“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”
Paulo Coelho, from The Alchemist
The Law of Attraction: Spending vs. Investing
Did you watch the movie, “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne or read her book? Most of the world now knows about the Law of Attraction thanks to her. Unfortunately, while Byrne did a huge service for the world the depth of the information wasn’t there to accurately convey how to bring more abundance to your life.
There’s a misconception that in order to attract abundance into your life you ought to prime the pump of the LOA by spending money. Perhaps you were told that in order to demonstrate your faith in the Law of Attraction you ought to “dig your ditches before the rain.” This idea originally comes from a passage in the Bible but I first read about it in Florence Scovel Shin’s book, “The Game of Life and How to Play It.”
What Shin meant was that if you’re praying for rain you must take action and dig the ditches to hold the water ahead of the rain. “Digging ditches” clearly communicates that you firmly and unwaveringly have faith in the Universe to bring about what you desire.
You might have misconstrued this advice by first buying the things you wanted as a demonstration that the money to pay for them would then show up. Unfortunately all this does is create debt. “Digging your ditches” symbolizes that you must have the faith and take action toward achieving your goals even when there isn’t a “cloud in the sky” to indicate that it’s going to rain.
There is a difference between spending and investing
Notice though, Shin did not say to go out and use up all the water you have as an act of faith that it would rain and then the water would be replenished. This is what you’re doing when you spend money you don’t have. You’re draining your resources. What Shin advises is to invest your energy and resources in creating a “ditch” or reservoir so that it will hold all the water you need whenever you need it. This is what “investing” does, it becomes a resource that pays you back again and again over time.
Spending money doesn’t garner the same results as investing
For example you see a gorgeous pair of boots and think,”If I buy the boots I’m showing the Universe I trust that the money is coming to pay the credit card bill.” But after you spend the money your life hasn’t changed. You have a nice pair of boots and nothing else to show for it.
When you invest money you take an action that ensures that the money will return a dividend, in other words, pay you back. For example you might be in a 401k retirement program at work. Over time with good investment strategies this investment will grow and be part of the money you live on in retirement.
You might invest in buying a home for the same reason; you anticipate that with time its value will increase so that someday when you sell it you’ll get back more than you spent to buy it. This is also the reason for investing in education. When you learn something useful it contributes to your ability to apply it in a way that the actions taken based on knowledge you received pays you back over time.
In general buying “stuff” for yourself is spending not investing. Clothes, furniture, cars and the like while needed are not investments. Buying something the goes up in value and returns a profit when you sell it is an investment. Examples of some good investments that will improve your life are education, coursework and coaching.
Investing in yourself is the entire premise of self-development. You are developing yourself for something, right? You probably want to learn how to be more successful at life which is to be happier, peaceful, self confident, more capable, loving and a better human being I would imagine.
Invest in yourself instead of spending on yourself
To unlock the power of the Law of Attraction invest in yourself. Investing in your education is one of the best investments you can make. Invest in a course that will help you learn what actions you need to take to create a better life. This will prime the pump of the LOA in your life much more than a one shot purchase such as a pair of boots. To invest in yourself is to dig a ditch and build a reservoir of resources that will pay you back handsomely over time.
Action demonstrates your faith in the Law. You must take the proper action steps. Wishing and visualizing are not enough. Action is how you “seed” the clouds for all that rain. And, if you don’t know what you want that’s a problem. You must know what you want in order to know the proper action steps to take.
Knowing what you want is key
If you aren’t sure of what you want your life to look like and all you think is that you want “abundance” you’re going to be disappointed. Abundance comes in many forms. You’ve got to be specific in order to come up with the action steps to seed your cloud.
Prime the pump of the Law of Attraction
Know what you want. Know your purpose and mission in life and then you will know what actions to take. After all you can’t get there until you know where “there is,” right? Knowing your purpose is having the map to get to your destination. As soon as you are clear on where you want to go the result of every action step taken will yield much more dramatic results toward your ultimate success.
If you are unclear of your purpose invest in yourself. Open the way and seed the cloud toward your abundance by investing not spending on yourself. Find a coach or take a course on how to find your life purpose, read a book on this topic or have a thorough astrological reading of your purpose done.
The sooner you know where you’re heading the sooner you’ll get there!

Ready to tap into your wealth vibe?
If you have ever found it difficult to increase your financial abundance read on. This interview with Daylle Deanna Schwartz, co-author of, “Tapping Into Wealth” by Margaret M. Lynch may be just what you need to charge-up your own wealth vibe. Daylle sent me a copy of Tapping Into Wealth which, I not only loved but found most helpful.
Daylle has become an expert in applying this modality and has a lot of knowledge to share with us about this miraculous technique! (She was also kind enough to mention me and Powered by Intuition in the dedication section of the book. Thank you Daylle).
1. Daylle tell us what EFT is?
EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), also called Tapping, is a technique used to heal emotions.
It’s one of the most powerful and effective mind/body techniques for clearing emotional blocks that keep you from achieving what you want. It dissolves resistance that keeps the Law of Attraction from working at full capacity. Tapping was developed based on the idea of acupuncture, which has been used to clear energy blocks to heal health issues for thousands of years in Chinese medicine.
It was discovered that if you use acupressure by tapping lightly with your fingertips on acupuncture points, you can make a shift in unconscious beliefs and negative emotions that block getting what you want. To do Tapping, express your feelings as you tap lightly on specific acupuncture points, using two fingers (or more) with either hand, or both hands. The more you express your feelings, the more blocks that keep you from getting what you want you can clear.
2. Why does it work?
Medical doctors now recognize that our bodies have a kind of electrical system that flows through it. In Eastern philosophy this is called the meridian system and the energy is called chi. If the chi flows how it should along the meridian, it keeps your body is in a natural state of well-being. In Western medicine, this electrical system has been studied as interacting with the fight or flight system, the sympathetic nervous system in the body.
When you start tapping on specific acupuncture points, you can actually flip a switch and turn off an old memory, or something that scares you, like having to face your boss about a stressful issue, dealing with someone you dislike, or something that makes you angry or sad. Tapping disconnects the thought from the autonomic nervous reaction in the body, which means the negative emotions dissipate and get calmer.
3. How has learning EFT benefited your life?
My career escalated when I began tapping to clear my blocks to making more money as I wrote the book and did the exercises. It helped me to recognize what was blocking my ability to manifest more wealth. It also helps me to heal physical problems when I tap on having good health and why I hate having the ailment.
I tap before I put goals into motion to help me achieve them. After I tapped on getting The Self-Love Movement™ off the ground, I got a lot of support. I recently tapped on getting the money to make a video to promote self-love, and shortly after got info about grants for people helping to make a difference in the world. I tapped when I sent n my application and won the grant for it.
4. Why does tapping work to help overcome money issues?
We accumulate unconscious blocks to making lots of money, especially in childhood, where we absorb negative messages about money from our parents. For example, my mom went from very solvent to broke when she was a little girl. Because of that she was always scared to spend money and would tell me, “You can never have enough money.” So I was focused on having enough. And that’s all I got. Now I focus on having more than enough!
You might have a hidden agenda driving your goal—wanting to make more money to prove your worth to someone who doubts you that gets in the way. And there are many more potential blocks explained in the book The stronger the emotions you express when Tapping, the more fuel you give it, like using the Law of Attraction to manifest. I often scream and use cuss words when trying to clear something painful or that I very much don’t want. Clearing these blocks and old beliefs can allow you to attract more money!
5. Can you share a quick exercise for how to use EFT to increase wealth?
Close your eyes and picture yourself around age six or seven. Take a nice deep breath and see your parents talking about and dealing with money or bills. What are they saying? How do your parents seem to feel about money? What negative feelings did they have? Were they worried about money? Or fighting? Was there never enough? Did they express negative feelings about people who have a lot of money? Those could be your subconscious blocks. Then do Tapping to clear your parent’s view of money. Acknowledge that they’re not yours and you don’t want them. Then do a positive round about what you want.
6. Why would you recommend learning Tapping?
Because it works! Besides tapping for money, you can use it for your health, to attract romance, to get over fear, guilt and doubt, to get rid of a phobia, to calm food cravings. It’s been used to help military personnel returning from war with PTSD. I use it with clients to clear their blocks for loving themselves and stopping their old people pleasing ways.
7. What is your next project?
Taking The Self-Love Movement™ to the next level. And I’m writing a book called, 101 Ways to Enjoy Getting Older.
What questions do you have for Daylle? Have you ever tried EFT? Tell us about your experience.

5 Mistakes to Avoid When Setting New Year Resolutions
by Brendan Baker
I absolutely love this time of year. I like to call it the season of dreams. It’s when most people take a step back, reflect on their life and check-in with their inner-self to see whether they are living their most inspirational life.
Unfortunately, most people realise that they are not living their most inspirational life and realise that something needs to change in order for them to move forward. The great thing is, the New Year is full of possibility and so New Year resolutions kick in to get them back on track and move them forward to their most inspirational life. The thing is, this energy, commitment and focus on their goals normally only lasts a couple of weeks as other priorities start to come in again and take over.
Does this sound like you?
Well, you’re not alone. It happens to most people. And there are some common reasons why this happens.
To ensure you set yourself up for success in 2014, you want to avoid these 5 mistakes people make when creating and pursuing their New Year resolutions.
Mistake #1: Your New Year Resolution is Not Linked with Your Values
Believe it or not, most New Year resolutions are not achieved because it’s not important to you. You might be thinking this sounds a little strange, as otherwise why would you be setting the resolution in the first place?
Simply put, it’s most likely that you don’t value what you’re trying to achieve with your New Year resolution as much as what you value in other areas of your life. That’s why you spend your time and energy on doing those other things.
As an example, you might have set a resolution to lose weight. However, this may not be a high core value for yourself. At least, there will be other values that you have which are higher than your value for losing weight. If this is the case, ask yourself why you have set this New Year resolution? If it’s because of social stigma, friends or family etc, realise that it’s not actually of value to you but of value to others.
For New Year resolutions to stick, you need to value them. To get around this, ask yourself the question ‘how can this serve me in other areas of my life’? This can lead you to gain awareness that losing weight might actually have its advantages in other areas of your life in which you do value more highly.
Mistake #2: Your New Year Resolution is Not Written Down
One of the most common mistakes that people make when it comes to setting New Year resolutions is that they don’t write them down.
The simple act of writing down your New Year resolutions can do wonders for your focus and motivation. Writing down your resolutions will force you to structure and organise your thoughts and commit to something in the physical form.
Having it written down can act as a stronger, visual reminder of what it is that you are trying to achieve.
Mistake #3: Your New Year Resolution Has No Action Plan
When setting New Year resolutions, most people set the goal but they don’t take the time to work out how they are actually going to achieve it.
Knowing the end game is just a part of the battle. Unfortunately, I need to break some news to you… you do actually need to take action and make it happen. The first part to this is creating your step-by-step plan on achieving your New Year resolution.
When you have a plan mapped out, make sure you actually schedule it in your diary and commit to it. Make it a habit to work towards your New Year resolution. It will be hard at first but it will always become and more motivating as you progress, get used to the process and start to see results.
Mistake #4: Your New Year Resolution Has No Time-Frame
Another mistake that most people make when setting New Year resolutions is that they do not set a specific time-frame to realise it.
New Year resolutions are just like goals. They need a time-frame to be completed in. When no given time-frame is involved, you will have the opportunity to procrastinate and put off achieving your resolution.
Make sure you set yourself a time-frame to realise your New Year resolution and this should be a clear part of your plan.
Mistake #5: Your Don’t Have the Support You Need to Fulfill Your New Year Resolution
When you’re battling something alone and don’t have the support of others, it can be very hard work.
Surrounding yourself with the right people (being those individuals who are also passionate and interested in what you are trying to achieve), this can have a massive effect on your overall success. These people will hold you accountable to a higher standard, they will motivate you and push you towards reaching your goals.
Thinking about your own New Year resolutions, who in your life will have the biggest positively impact to your success and how can you engage with them more frequently?
This is the season of dreams. Ensure that the dream becomes reality by avoiding the 5 key mistakes above.
What can you do differently this year to ensure you remain focused, committed and motivated in achieving success? Have questions for Brendan? Leave a comment.

Why aren’t you getting the abundance you want in life?
Have you been repeating affirmations and visualizing your abundance, to no avail?
So many of us struggle with getting what we want in our lives.
Most people want the same things; great health, loving relationships, spiritual growth, a satisfying career and stable finances.
None of these desires are unachievable or extraordinary in any way so, why do so many people try over and over and get no where?
I get email every day asking for answers to: “Why am I not getting what I want in my life?
This is what motivated me to start the Create Your Abundance Now! workshop series. I want to share what I’ve learned through my research and using my own life as a laboratory for the last three decades, and see you create the abundance and life you desire.
When the film, “The Secret,” came out in 2006 I was glad to see the teaching that, we create our reality with our thoughts going mainstream. What I was unhappy about was that it focused only on one spiritual principle, “the law of attraction,” to the exclusion of all the others.
There are numerous universal principles and sub-principles whose numbers change according to who you read. After years of searching through many confusing and arcane texts I found Raymond Holliwell, author of the 1939 classic, “Working With the Law: 11 Truth Principles for Successful Living. ”
Holliwel’s book clearly explains the other universal principles aside from the law of attraction, and how you create what you experience in life. I recommend it.
Here are the 6 most common reasons you don’t manifest what you want in life:
1. Unclear about what you want. If you are not clear, always changing your mind or choose something because you believe it is the “right thing” rather than what your heart desires, your ability to manifest will be handicapped.
The antidote: Become crystal clear about what you want. Write down your goal and describe it. Know what your life will look like and what you feel like when you manifest your desire. Do not be ashamed of what you want and substitute something else because you feel embarrassed.
2. Unresolved emotional issues. If you haven’t worked on self-love issues such as unworthiness and not feeling “good enough” they will undermine your ability to manifest. My friend Evelyn Lim has written an excellent book, Self-Love Secrets: How to Love Yourself Uncondtionally, that I highly recommend.
The antidote: Do some work on yourself to uncover the negative messages you absorbed when you were in your formative years and release them. Emotional catches are like splinters sticking out of the paneling that pull your sweater when you walk by. How can you feel good when you’re constantly being “pulled” like this? When you feel bad you will not resonate to the good you desire. You’ve got to “feel good” about yourself to manifest your good.
3. Fears. If you fear change, being in the spot-light by becoming success or the shame of failure this too will hold you back from achieving your goals.
The Antidote: Embrace change. Often change is brought about by problems. When we face the problem and overcome it we grow more confident in our ability to deal with challenges. The confidence that comes with experience is also how we overcome fear of failure and success. You have to fail once in a while to not only learn what works but, to know that it is not the end of the world.
4. False beliefs. If you believe that there is “only so much to go round” or that abundance is difficult to attain you will push away the very things you desire.
The antidote: Listen to the voices in your head. Are they critical and negative? Are they yours or are they remnants of voices you heard growing up from parents and authority figures? Many times our lives run on unconscious beliefs. Look back and see if you absorbed a false belief such as, “money is the root of all evil,” and work on replacing these thoughts with something more constructive.
5. Withholding forgiveness. If you cannot let go of the past and forgive you will block new good from entering your life.
The antidote: Forgive, let go of the past and live with gratitude for the present. Past hurts that remain unhealed are like black holes that suck in our energy and joy like a vacuum. When we read that forgiveness is not for the other person but, for ourselves this is the reason. Forgive yourself and others then let go to move on in life.
6. Ingratitude. When we focus only on what we don’t have – we skew our perception of life from noticing abundance to seeing only lack.
The antidote: Gratitude. Focus on what you have now and give thanks for that. The more you notice the good in your life the more your abundance will grow. Keeping an abundance journal is a great way to train your mind to notice all the things you have to be grateful for.
This is only a short list of some of the reasons we don’t get what we want. There are more to be sure.
What’s holding you back from getting what you want in life? Can you identify with any of these challenges?

Imagine what life would be like if you never had to worry about anything again?
Woman enjoying abundance and prosperity
Imagine never worrying about money or paying your bills?
Imagine never worrying about your health or the health of a loved one?
Imagine never worrying about being alone or having loving relationships in your life?
Imagine never worrying that you don’t feel connected to your spiritual source?
What would it be like to be free of worries – forever?
Every book and course tells you that you shouldn’t worry. They say worrying is a sure-fire way to push away the exact things you’d like to have in your life.
But, sometimes it’s hard to not worry, isn’t it? How do you stop worrying when you can’t pay your mortgage or rent?
10 Abundance and Prosperity Techniques:
1. Focus on feeling the way you’d feel if you had abundance, prosperity, great health, loving relationships or a deeply satisfying spiritual practice.
2. “See” it – whatever “it” is for you, as already done and existing in the present in your mind’s eye using visioning, or creative visualization. My friend Evelyn Lim has an entire course about the power of visioning.
3. Use affirmations to change your thought patterns from ones of lack to ones of abundance and prosperity.
4. You’ve probably heard of this one too: Fake it ’till you make it or act “as if” until what you are focusing upon manifesting appears in your life.
5. Another strategy is to “have an attitude of gratitude.” Be grateful for everything you have and focus on noticing and giving thanks for everything.
6. Positivity. Have a positive outlook on life. See the glass as half full. Wear rose colored glasses. Look for the silver lining in all situations.
7. Create the life you desire by making your goals a priority. My friend Elle Sommer says you can do this by steadily maintaining a focus upon them. Keep a manifesting journal or make treasure maps of what you’d like to see manifest in your life.
8. EFT – use emotional freedom techniques to rid your self of negative belief patterns holding you back from achieving abundance and prosperity.
9. Reframe your focus. Instead of focusing on all the things in your life that you don’t want – focus on what you want instead. My friend Melody Fletcher, an expert in LOA, says to ask yourself, “What do I want instead?”
10. Get a coach to work with you on overcoming the procrastination, fear and self sabotage that hold you back from creating and maintaining your prosperity.
These are just 10 techniques for manifesting abundance but, there are probably many more I am not aware of.
I’ve used all of these techniques to manifest abundance and prosperity at different times in my life and they do work…..but, I always felt that something was missing.
After researching and reading hundreds of books I believe I have found the “missing ingredient.”
The missing ingredient is the power of group intention.
When we work alone on overcoming issues of fear and lack we can easily give up if we don’t get the results we seek. When we work with a group we can cheer each other on and, lend our energy and intention to one another to assist each member in achieving their goals.
To test out my theory, I’m offering a free teleseminar to “Create Your Abundance Now.”
We will discuss the different techniques of manifesting abundance. Plus, we will harness the group’s energy to create a laser beam of intent for each person on the teleseminar. There will be a follow up call the next week to see what results each of the attendees experienced.
Join me for this powerful teleseminar on Wednesday, August 15 at 9 pm Eastern.
Seats are limited so hurry and sign up now~! Click here to sign-up. (If you are already an email subscriber to Powered by Intuition and receiving the weekly newsletter – you don’t need to sign-up here. I will be sending out all the details of the call to you this week).
Have you used any of these techniques to manifest abundance? How did they work? Were the results lasting? Do you think having the power of group intention behind you might make a difference?
P.S. I also love teaching people about using their intuition. Click to see my books.
