Have you ever wondered how a clairvoyant receives their visions?
Or if you can learn to become clairvoyant?
The clairvoyant’s eyes are closed. A scene unfolds:
She “sees” a young man in a tuxedo standing next to a bride. There’s an open casket in the background….
How and “where” is she “seeing” this scene?
This is a question I’ve been asked many times as well as if you can learn to be clairvoyant.
Clairvoyance is seeing what cannot be seen with physical eyes
Clairvoyance is also referred to as remote viewing.
Where are visions seen?
When I close my eyes I receive images in my “minds eye” – that’s the “where” of it.
What’s the purpose of clairvoyance?
Clairvoyance is a way of getting information about the problems and answers to the questions you have about your life. I see it as another way of using the “mind.” (Mind being what is beyond the physical brain.)
While giving a reading a person can ask me questions and images will spring to mind. I don’t “think up” these images, it’s more like an instantaneous download to my mind’s eye. They just suddenly appear.
Sometimes the image is a literal representation of something and other times it’s symbolic. The trick is in knowing the difference between the two and in the interpretation of what comes to mind. This is where experience and practice come into play.
I’m in awe each and every time because it happens spontaneously. I’m not the one doing it – I’m simply the medium, which is to say the mechanism or “television,” if you will, capturing the waves that carry this information and turn them into a picture on my mental screen.
How is clairvoyance transmitted?
Gary Schwartz, Ph.D., author of, The Afterlife Experiments, theorizes that each of us emits an electromagnetic vibration, frequency or ‘signal.’ If you’ve ever seen an electrocardiogram, you’ve seen a representation of this energy current captured by an ECG machine. (p.283)
The electromagnetic currents carry within them a sort of shorthand for what is going on within us and in our lives. This energy may be what some people would call the “aura.”
I believe that a psychic is able to receive this frequency and some part of their mind turns it into pictures, sound and feeling just like the television does but, sans the feeling. (I think everyone has this capability to some extent and that it’s only a matter of practice and natural inclination that distinguishes the psychic’s capacity from other people’s.)
How does it work?
Throughout the years, I’ve read many books by scientists about research findings proving the reality of psychic ability. What I have never come across is the science behind how we actually receive psychic impressions. I gave you my theory on how I think we receive information clairvoyantly but, of course, it isn’t proven.
Someday, I do hope science will be able to explain how psychics receive this information and how it is turned into pictures in the mind’s eye. My friend fellow psychic, Nancy du Terte, did extensive research for her book, “Psychic Intuition” explaining among many things, her theory of how clairvoyants may be able to see.
What may be happening is that the imagination, which Nancy likens to, “a cross road between sensing and thinking,” receives this information and creates “sensory perceptions” that our brain then perceives as the image clairvoyants say they “see” (p.218).
This sounds like a good explanation to me. After all, it’s not coming through the eyes since the clairvoyant’s eyes are usually closed. (I have experienced “seeing” clairvoyantly with my physical eyes a few times but, it is very rare. It’s more common for clairvoyants to “see” in the mind’s eye.)
At this point in time, there are a number of well established studies with results showing that psychic abilities, or what is called “psi” do exist. We’re going to have to wait for science to further show how we receive the information and how we convert it into usable information.
Yes – you can develop clairvoyance
If you’re not a born psychic you can definitely develop this ability. Developing clairvoyance takes concentration, focus and practice like anything else. The best way is to learn to use visualization. Practice each and every day.
You can combine this practice with visualizing your goals, i.e, as in “seeing or imagining” a mental movie of what you wish to accomplish in you life. The practice of very detailed visualization on a regular basis will stimulate your clairvoyant capacity.
If you’re interested in developing clairvoyance, here’s an exercise I give my private mentoring students to stimulate their ability to visualize:
1. Go around the house and collect ten small items. For example; an apple, a banana; a stapler; a calculator; a paperweight; a camera…..etc.
2. Go someplace you won’t be disturbed. Look at each of the ten items you collected very closely. Inspect them from all angles. Gaze at each one and try to commit it to memory.
3. Now begin to go into your mediation. When you are really relaxed and in that “zone,” begin to recall each of the 10 items you brought into the room with you.
4. Allow at least 1/2 hour for this exercise. See how much detail you can see on each item. In your mind’s eye rotate the item so that you are now seeing it from every angle.
5. It’s okay if you can’t recall all ten items. Open your eyes briefly and glimpse the items you forgot and then go right back to your exercise. Use the same 10 items until you’ve mastered seeing them. Then choose 10 new items and repeat this exercise.
Developing clairvoyance takes concentration, focus and practice like anything else. This is only the beginning. There are other more complex exercises to develop clairvoyance that I use as well.
I hope I’ve given you a better understanding of what clairvoyance is. Please feel free to ask any questions about it in the comments.

i saw a vision of a girl while practicing psychometry and saw her very clearly then one day lost my clairvoyant powers when waited for the, to appear.
Hi Ronald,
You must keep practicing to develop your clairvoyance. It took me years of practice to “see” clearly.
If you have the desire, create the intention and practice it will grow stronger.
Trust me you haven’t lost it.
Thank you so much for visiting and leaving a comment.
It’s a pleasure to meet you!
sory tokk me years to see your responses still trying to develope esp.
i have clairvoyant powers but they come when im not thinking about them i want it at will was good at it at age 14
Hi Ronald,
Nice to meet you.
With some practice you could train your clairvoyance to show up when you need it most.
still practicing getting no where with flash pictures at will. i do see stars on the wall though but no vision. get bad head ache when placing a samadhi stone also known as the tiger eye.
Here’s a question. I sometimes see mind movies immediately after waking up in the morning. They last 5 – 10 seconds, are somewhat grainy, and sort of make my eyes roll back and forth. These are involuntary. But when I *try* to see one, I can’t. In fact, I can’t visualize an image in my mind’s eye at all, despite much practice and daily meditation. Any ideas as to how I might better develop this ability?
Hi Kat,
It’s much easier to “see” when you first wake up. Your brain waves are still slower than when you’re fully awake.
What I’d suggest doing is practicing “seeing” in the way I described in this article.
I think you’re trying to hard.
Can you recall what your car looks like without it being in front of you? Can you remember what your child looks like, or a friend’s face?
“Seeing” is exactly that. Don’t “try” to see as if you’re watching television.
Use the word “remember” or “recall” instead of “seeing” and then notice if you can recall how things look.
Try this and let me know if it works better for you.
Angela
Hi Fred,
I never heard of the game you mentioned but, it sounds fascinating.
It sounds like your clairvoyance is opening up for sure. Seeing landscapes is significant.
I remember meditating and being taken on these “trips” over landscapes and mountains particularly, in Greece near Delphi, when I first started to “see.”
I was 17 when I first astral projected. I keep wondering if this might be related to hormones. I hear this a lot from people that they had their first OBEs around this age.
I think you should just enjoy what’s happening and see where it takes you, for now. Let the experiences come and write them down so you can review them later. Meditation does reawaken our latent abilities. You don’t necessarily have to become a psychic even if you have psychic abilities. You can use them to help you in your own life as in; sensing things about people’s character or motives, having a vibe about decisions you need to make, etc.
Everything you learn will come in handy one day – that’s for sure!
Thanks so much for visiting and commenting Fred. It’s a pleasure to see you. If I can ever answer any questions for you or help you in any way, please don’t hesitate to ask, okay?
Hi there Angela,
I first discovered clairvoyance when playing a game called might and magic three when I was about eight years old. I had no idea what the word actually meant at the time, I only knew that it illuminated my mini map, and that it was useful.
Fast-forward about 15 years, now I’m realizing that developing that same kind of clairvoyance may actually be possible in real life!
I’ve began seeing things occasionally – not too much, but a little – ever since I started meditation. One time I actually saw the randomness behind my closed eyes morph into blue mountains during the session. I’ve also spontaneously begun astral projecting, although that’s still rare.
I’m not so sure that I want to develop psychic abilities myself, but it seems like I’m getting a little bit of it anyway as I immerse myself in zazen. I just hope it won’t be too scary!
Great article, and thank you.
Hey Angela,
As I read all the great comments here, I’m going to make a comment that’s directed more to your readers than to you — so hopefully some of them will read it. 😉
But I’ve had a reading from Angela and this girl is an amazing clairvoyant. I think my mouth was hanging open thru most of the reading. She “saw” things so clearly and in such detail I was astounded.
Point is: You’re learning from one of the best here! (Ok, WE’RE learning from one of the best here!)
What a treasure you are, Angela. Thanks for yet another great article…
Patti,
Thank you so much. I’m deeply touched. What a wonderful compliment coming from another intuitive.
I loved the channeled reading you gave me. What a wealth of information I got from that.
I never felt so connected to my guides before. It was the missing element I’d craved for a long time.
I think it has been helping me immensely ever since too.
My name is Madeline. I am a gifted transformational clairvoyant. I have been in touch with the spiritual world and their guidance from my early childhood. I always knew that one day I would be spiritually guided to teach this ability to others and to guide them on their own spiritual path.
My mission is to help others expand their understanding of how the Universe works and the importance of following their own inner guidance.
Methods of communication are as follows:
clairvoyance
clairaudience
claircognizance
clairsentience
These methods of communication represent clear seeing, clear thinking, clear hearing and receiving information and messages with your body energetically, physically and emotionally. My messages are Universal
and her Automatic Writings are spiritually guided.
Hi Madeline,
It’s so nice to meet you – a fellow clairvoyant.
I think we’re on a similar path.
Thank you so much for sharing what you do with us here.
You sound truly fascinating and I look forward to getting to know you better.
All my best,
Angela
Think you have the makings of another book here.
Hi – you’re right.
I don’t mean to insult said Ph.D guy. I know it is a lot of work to get there.
The energy we see, feel, taste, hear and smell is merely interpretations of how we perceive the energy vibrations. The energy vibrations are mostly in another “plain” if you will. There are 3 overlapping each other(with 11 dimensions as M-Theory predicted :D) and with the physical body we can “only perceive the physical”(it is also the densest form of energy). The energy we “see” interacts with our own energy, as a psychic we learn to interpret that reaction(Not really on a physical level, but will have physical effect. However seeing it as a physical thing happening to you will increase the strength of the action for you are focusing on it in a specific time and space). It depends mostly what element we are affinity for (have to put more research on the element part, but it seems to hold thus far), some might interpret the vibrations with images, others emotions – empaths, others might hear voices or the vibrations (should be a high frequency). It all depends on the nature of the energy source and the receiver(experience, level of intuition, amount of blockages…).
I have been channeling for the information from a very early on age and still drawing more info on this, so I am fairly sure I have a right understanding of this. 🙂 I just need my degree and a capital now to start with my own set of experiments to proof it. Sure I might not live to see it come to full term, but it should help those who follow.
Hi Henk,
Nice to meet you.
I agree with your ideas of each of us is able to decode these frequencies. Everything we experience is truly energy that has either coalesced because it’s vibratinging so slowly or in the psychic realms vibrating at such a high rate that we rarely perceive it. I see you’ve been studying “string theory.” It does offer an overarching explanation of how we’re all connected.
I think which element a psychic experiences may have to do with the individual’s astrology chart. If you have a lot of fire in your chart you may be more apt to be a clairvoyant. More air – possibly a clairaudient, water – claircognizant and clairsentient or what you’re calling an empath. We third dimensional beings are socialized from an early age to narrow our field of awareness to acknowledge only the densest of energies. I do hope you get your Ph.D. so you can work on your theories. There are only a handful of scientists in entire world who are interested in these topics so, another one would be welcome.
Where does your channeled information come from? Do you have on specific being you work with?
Reading this reminded me of when you gave me a reading over the phone – from across the country – having never seen where I live – and you completely described where I live. It was like you literally came over and where there. It’s amazing how clairvoyants see.
I love that you truly believe we can all develop these abilities – and you teach it by giving clear practical steps that work. (Is this comment sounding like a testimonial?) – It really is your genius – this practical approach that really works.
I feel like I’ve been in intuition school by reading your blog.
Hi Aileen,
Oh, thank you so much. I loved “visiting” your home. I’m not sure that every clairvoyant sees inside people’s houses though. I don’t want to give the wrong impression.
I so appreciate this unsolicited testimonial. Thank you.
I guess my background in operations and writing training manuals comes into play when I’m writing about psychic development too.
I love that: Intuition school!
I’ve only been using this “faculty” for 6 months, and it’s interesting how it just shows up. I never really was too concerned about the science behind it (i.e. it’s there, and that’s enough for me) but have been reading lately how the blind do see with their inner eye because it is not physically connected to the same place in the body that allows physical sight.
The tricky part in my limited experience is connecting what I am seeing to what it actually means, which involves conversation with the person I am reading for. I’ve wondered if this is intentional, because usually the conversation itself opens up important connections and issues for the client which might be more valuable than me getting it 100% off the bat and just relaying it to the person.
Hi Julie,
Yes, that’s right. There have been some studies with blind individuals who were taught to sense colors with their hands and the location of furniture in rooms. After practicing this for a while they realized that they were sensing this through the mind’s eye. So, they developed a sort of “seeing,” usually shapes not colors that helped them navigate in the sighted world.
Interpreting what we see is the tricky part for everyone! I think describing what you’re getting to your client is the best way to not only get feedback but, to also learn how your mind uses symbolism. I think your technique is an excellent one Julie!
Ms. Angela, Wht would you say is the difference between Second sight and shifting your sight up to the third eye and still seeing with your physical eyes. I don’t mean to hijack this thread, but I think it all stems from the same source but manifests in different way i.e. clairvoyance, third eye, clairaudence etc.
I enjoy your articles and your take on this since I am traveling this path also.
Thanks
Hi Ray,
You bring up an interesting point.
I was going to write about this in the article but, I thought it might be confusing and decided to save it for a later article.
You can “see” with your eyes open. Once you develop clairvoyance you can train yourself to “see” in your mind’s eye while you have your eyes open.
It’s similar to having a memory come to mind while your eyes are open. For example, you’re having a discussion about taking a boating trip and the memory of the last boat trip you took comes to mind. In your mind’s eye you’re able to “see” the image of the boat you used on your last trip. Seeing it in your mind’s eye does not conflict with having your eyes open – it’s the same with clairvoyant visions that you receive with the eyes open.
Second sight also refers to clairvoyance. “Second sight” is a term that’s been used by Judith Orloff to describe both intuition and precognition too. Orloff’s book title of the same name may have “stretched” the meaning of this term but, if you look it up in the dictionary it clearly means clairvoyance.
I hope this answers your question. If not please feel free to ask additional questions.
Thanks for the reply and it does clear up some questions I’ve had for a while.
One more question please. What is happening when you see some thing for a brief second and then it’s gone. Or more specifically you see it move and disappear? There was no way it could have moved that fat to be out of my normal line of sight
This has happened a number of times recently. If this is not the place for this question please let me know.
Again thanks for your time.
Ray,
You may be seeing inter-dimensionally. For a moment when you’re caught off guard you’re conditioning about seeing only what is “solid” in this 3rd dimension is down and, you see more expansively. We’ve been conditioned by what is considered normal in our society to accept seeing only what can be explained by our current understanding of physics. In truth we probably see way more than that but our brain is filtering it out in accordance with our beliefs. As scientists uncover more about how our universe works (quantum mechanics/string theory, etc.) – we also begin to perceive more. Perhaps this is why so many people are not “seeing” spirit?
This is a great article for beginners, I’m going to share it on Facebook definitely!
Hi Nathan,
I’m so glad you enjoyed this article.
Yes, the information and exercise are really aimed at acquainting newcomers to this subject.
Thank you for sharing it on FB Nathan I truly appreciate that very much.
Hi Angela,
I am so glad that this topic along with other psychic phenomena is being openly discussed and explained. Not too long ago it was dismissed as parlor tricks yet we are seeing more proof that it is a natural physical gift.
More people than we know have experienced psychic abilities and are more willing to openly discuss it now more than ever.
Hi Justin,
Yes, I’m glad too. I kept it under wraps myself for most of my life as well.
There is so much scientific evidence now proving the existence of psi.
What we’re still lacking is acceptance by mainstreet science and the science behind how it works.
Thanks so much for commenting and sharing my article. I really appreciate it.
I’m not sure I ever see things as much as suddenly I just know something is true. But your instructions make me think I can improve and refine my abilities in this area. I’ll try it!
Hi Galen,
It sounds to me like you’re experiencing claircognition. That’s when you just “know” something to be true.
You certainly can work on clairvoyance too though.
Hey Angela! Just posted this article on my Facebook. These look like some very useful tips indeed.
I am more the “feeler of energy” (if you will)…but clairvoyance does pop up when needed. Each message is different, but there have been times when a picture pops up in my mind and all of a sudden, it’s like my 3rd eye zooms in really close to get a good look at it. lol…
Hi Kenya,
Yes, if you want to become clairvoyant you need to ramp up your visualization.
From your post I read earlier it certainly sounds like you’re a “feeler of energy” for sure!
Aaah, you have one of the “zooming third eyes” I’ve heard about! Cool.
