Last weekend I did some pruning in the back yard.
There was a pretty vine growing up the side of the fir tree by my garage.
I pulled it off – with my bare hands.
Big mistake. It was poison ivy.
A Native American saying Marianne Williamson once quoted came to mind: The antidote to any poisonous plant found in nature is never more than three feet away.
While I didn’t find a natural remedy growing anywhere in my yard for the poison ivy – I did have an epiphany of sorts about the Native American saying.
When we’re facing adversity in our lives all we really want is for it to end. Period.
Wouldn’t it be nice if the antidote to any problem were a mere three feet away? Unfortunately life doesn’t always work that way, and most of us know by now that adversity while unpleasant, has a place in our lives. We’re meant to learn how to master the particular challenge we’re facing and to grow from the experience.
If there were a magic pill for us each time we faced difficulties, or felt down we’d never progress in our development and mastery of this life.
But who’s to say we can’t get a little help every now and then? When we’re dealing with tough times, or need the “know how” to accomplish a goal, or need a shot of courage, or motivation and inspiration, wouldn’t it be nice to know we can turn to someone who’s been through what we’re experiencing for advice and strategies? And, wouldn’t it be nice if all it took was one click on Net to get there?
The Daily Brainstorm – A Blogazine to Rock Your Mind launching the week of July 12 – is such a place. It’s blogazine….meaning it’s a site that pools the best content from the best blogs on the Internet and puts it all on one easy to navigate site. It’s a place to find answers, tips and tools from some of the most innovative minds in the blogosphere.
Some top name talent is contributing to this new online magazine such as:
Leo Babauta of Zen Habits; Darren Rowse of ProBlogger; Gretchen Rubin of Happiness Project; Danielle LaPorte of White Hot Truth; Mary Jaksch of Goodlife Zen and Write to Done; Charlie Gilkey of Productive Flourishing; and Erin Pavlina of Spiritual Wisdom.
And that’s not all – there are 80 plus blogs contributing to Rock Your Mind at The Daily Brainstorm in sections such as Spirituality, Self Development, Humor, Money, Health, Lifestyle, Blogosphere, Writing and News&Views. Some of the up and comers you might recognize are: Barrie Davenport of Live Bold & Bloom, Katie Tallo of Momentum Gathering; Lisa of Privilege; Manal Ghosain of One With Now; Jean Sarauer of Virgin Blogger Notes; Farnoosh of Prolific Living; Arvind Devalia of Make It Happen; and yes, Powered by Intuition is there too. And, so many more fabulously talented bloggers you simply have to go and see for yourself. Of course, I’ve got a major soft spot for The Daily Brainstorm since I’m now the director of marketing for the publication. But still, do yourself a favor and scratch that itch – visit The Daily Brainstorm – A Blogazine to Rock Your Mind! I know the antidote you’re looking for will be there. (As for me and my poison ivy – I’m outta luck. I’m scratching ’til I hit bone!)

I visited The Daily Brainstorm. It is a great aggregate site. I recommend it to everyone. Seeing your content there speaks well of you and the Daily Brainstorm.
Thank you Rosemarie! And, thanks for visiting The Daily Brainstorm too!
Thank you for sharing! So glad your poison ivy has cleared. I now have a two part plan for the next time I’m feeling sorry for myself.
Step one: Thank the holy cow that I don’t have poison ivy
Step two: Dig through The Daily Brainstorm
Hi Adena,
My pleasure to share with you!
Yes, I’m fully recovered from the nasty rash!
I do thank the Holy Cow that I no longer have it!
Glad you’re going to dig through The Daily Brainstorm.
I’m sure you’ll love it.
Angela
Congratulations on a superbly crafted post.
Little story to get our attention – catchy line about it being good if solutions were always close at hand and then you gave us a solution that is only one click away – perfect.
Grabbed me and kept my attention to the end.
Hi Keith,
Thanks so much for visiting my blog.
I appreciate your wonderful deconstruction of my post too!
It’s a pleasure having you comment. I look forward to seeing you here again.
Angela the Daily Brainstorm is a no brainer – its inspiration all the way. I’ve been lucky to have a couple of posts up and Barrie has created a true portal for positive pleasure. It typifies your post that it’s best to have a daily dose of something naturally good for mind, body and spirit as the ripple effect across all three then is quite dramatic. There’s no magic pill but there is a magic formula U + PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) = H20 (Happiness Twice Over).
Hi John,
No brainer – you’re right. What a great idea getting all the bloggers together in one place to contribute. When I started blogging one of my goals was to someday start my own aggregator site…..and, now look at how that’s manifested? Isn’t it interesting how our intentions become reality in some fashion?
I love your formula: U + PMA = H20 = that’s super brilliant!
I’m glad you’ve had some posts up on The Daily Brainstorm.
I’m sure there will be more in the future!
Thanks so much for visiting and leaving such an awesome comment!
Angela, great way of introducing The Daily Brainstorm to the world.
The world will never be short of inspiration ever again:-)
And I hope your itch gets cleared up soon!
Thank you kindly, Arvind.
My poison ivy is gone – thank goodness!
So nice to have you visit me here – don’t be a stranger!
How did you know I love Marianne Williamson? And your resources are excellent. The Daily Brainstorm shows how Leo and Mary take care of their tribe. Brilliant!
Hi Tess,
I wonder – who the heck doesn’t like Marianne Williamson? She’s phenomenal.
Of course Tess – I should know you’d like her! You’re a deeply spiritual person.
It comes through in your blog – which is why I love reading it.
The Daily Brainstorm is becoming quite a resource!
Thanks so much for commenting and visiting here!
Sounds like a wonderful place to brainstorm! Looking forward to it.
I love the thought that the solution to our problem is always nearby. this is very true for the solution is always a thought and our thoughts are always with us, waiting for us to discover them.
Hi Mark,
Yes, The Daily Brainstorm is certainly becoming a great resource.
I know I do to. The Native American saying is so true. We always have solution – to changer or perspective, or thoughts about the problem.
Thank you so much for visiting and commenting Mark.
Thank you for sharing Angela!
It sounds like and exciting project for all! Congratulations on your position.
I’m glad the itch is clearing up.
Hi Jenny,
So nice to see you.
You’re welcome! It’s a fantastic resource. Instead of searching the entire internet you can find many great blogs in one place.
Of course, yours is a great blog too though!
Thank you for your congratulations. I appreciate it.
Me too – today I’m itch free!
Thanks so much for commenting.
Sorry to hear about the poison ivy!!! The Daily Brainstorm is quite fabulous, it lands in my email box and I know when I open it it will be a whorl wind of great information and inspiration.
Hi Aileen,
My poison ivy is clearing up – thank goodness.
I’m so glad you’re enjoying The Daily Brainstorm.
I think it makes it so much easier than going around to many websites individually.
I enjoyed your interview on Bottom Up!
Oh no… not poison ivy. That is so not fun. I hope you are doing better now. What a great idea and concept you put together. I actually checked it out and am really excited about it. You have all my favorite people in one page that is so easy to read and navigate through. It really doesn’t get better than that.
P.S. The layout looks really good.
Hi Sibyl,
I know – I’m hoping it’s totally cleared up by this weekend.
I’m so glad you checked out The Daily Brainstorm and found it useful and fun!
Thank you for all the lovely compliments too – you’re a sweetheart!
Angela,
Ahhh Poison ivy! I’ve heard some crazy stories about them from my friends. Avoid starching and dry it out. You’re part of the brainstorm team? That’s awesome. I checked out the Daily Brainstorm site and it does look like a great resources. Thanks for sharing and I hope the treatments will help you get well soon.!
Hi Justin,
So far I’ve been pretty good about not scratching – and it’s drying out.
I should be back to normal by the end of the week – thank goodness!
I’m so glad you checked out The Daily Brainstorm – it is a pooling of some terrific writers if I do say so myself!
It’s my pleasure to share with you.
Thanks for the well wishes on my poison ivy.
I really appreciate your visiting here Justin!
Hey Angela, thanks for sharing this site. I didn’t really know about it until now. I’m looking at the site right now and definitely see a lot of talented brains here working together. 🙂 Looking forward to reading some of the articles!
Hi Hulbert,
I’m so happy to be able to share it with you my friend!
We just launched this week – which is why you didn’t know about it.
I’m so glad you’re going to visit the site. I’ve busy working which is why I fell behind on reading your excellent blog!
I should be able to catch up soon though.
So nice to see you here Hulbert!
Poison ivy! Yikes! I’ve been lucky to avoid that considering all my outside time and not paying attention to what I’m doing 🙂 So glad you’re part of the Brainstorm team!
Hi Jean,
I know! I can’t believe I escaped it my whole life until now. It truly is a killer – I never realized.
I’m elated to be part of the team, and help to accomplish something I believe in that’s so worthwhile for many people!
Now maybe we can have that cup of coffee/Skype session?
Angela, I do hope you’re recovering from the encounter with poison ivy. That can be rough. Sending you some virtual calamine lotion…
I was thinking about what you wrote, and I’m almost positive the antidote to our suffering *does* lie close by, even closer than three feet, often within the very suffering itself — or at least within us, living the circumstances. Because our thoughts and our attitudes often cause our pain. Even if the facts of the situation cannot be immediately altered, we can change our posture toward it and be willing to learn the lessons this moment has to share. Usually, at least in my experience, there’s my antidote, waiting gift-wrapped. 🙂
Thanks for the heads-up about the blog aggregate site. Sounds interesting!
Hi Meredith,
Welcome to my blog! Thank you for asking @ my poison ivy and for sending the virtual calamine lotion! I’ve been swallowing 2 teaspoons of turmeric each day to help with the inflamation. I do believe it’s working. It’s starting to dry up.
You are absolutely right. The solution always lies within the problem itself which is closer than 3 feet for sure! And, is contingent upon our changing our thoughts and perspective as you say. Yes, I so agree with you too – if we can’t immediately solve it we can take lessons from it. Your experience is absolutely valid – I must confess this is exactly the post I had in mind to write when at the last minute I needed a way to publicize The Daily Brainstorm due to the launch, etc. You are very intuitive!
Thank you so much for visiting and leaving such wonderful insightful comments.
Hi Angela,
Yes indeed, it is a common occurrence to find problems between where we are in life, and where we want to go. Even Poison Ivy is part of evolution’s ‘Grand Plan.’ How are we to experience higher expressions of ourselves if there is no problem to overcome?
Thanks for introducing me to the Daily Brainstorm… looks like an excellent resource.
Glad you Poison Ivy is healing nicely.
Hi Rob,
I was wondering what I was supposed to learn from getting poison ivy…..perhaps, time to say goodbye to this house.
True, we’ll never expand beyond our comfort zone if we don’t have to stretch.
I’m glad you’re going to check out The Daily Brainstorm. Let me know what you think after you do.
I love the Native American Wisdom. I think it’s true in life that the solution is right in front of us but we often don’t see it!
I look forward to reading the online magazine, too. Thanks for the recommendation.
Hi Betsy,
Yes, I love Native American wisdom too. I agree often the solutions are right in front of us – we just don’t see it!
I’m glad you’ll be reading the blogazine. Glad I could recommend it!
First, I’m sorry to hear that, for poison ivy, I hope you’ll be ok… It is true that in life, “antidote” is often not as close as we would want…
As for “the Daily Brainstorm” sounds interesting, I will definitely explore it a little more…
Hi Marko,
Thank you – my poison ivy is clearing up. It’s been a week now – thank goodness – less itchy!
Yes, the antidote is never as close as we’d all like in life – that’s for sure.
I’m glad you’ll be exploring The Daily Brainstorm!
Thank you!
Thank you for the information. There are some great blog writers there. That is something to really look forward to.
Hi Marion,
You’re so welcome. Yes, there are some really big names contributing to the blogazine.
Thank you so much for visiting and commenting and checking out The Daily Brainstorm!
Great way to introduce this fantastic aggregate of bloggers. Thanks for the mention, Angela. Have a a great day.
Hi Katie,
You’re welcome. Have a great day too!
Angela,
Oh my, how are you doing now with that poison ivy itch? I had done same that a month ago, only thing it was poison oak and my hands were swollen and red. It was not fun, luckily everything worked out after using proper cream and medicine.
I checked out daily brainstorm site, looks very good with all a list bloggers contributing it, how can not it be? Congratulations! I am happy for you and other blogs very much so, one place to read all great minds.
Hi Preeti,
Thank you for asking how I’m doing. Better – It’s been a week now so it is clearing up. Thank goodness!
Poison oak? I hear that’s worse – you poor thing! I hope you’re better too.
