This morning I was in the midst of an intriguing dream when the feeling of sandpaper exfoliating my face pulled me out of it. Stevie, my longhair tabby was furiously licking my cheek reminding me that it was his breakfast time, but I had other ideas. You see, every morning I spend a few moments going over the dream I’ve had before getting up so that later I can see how it fits into my life.
I popped out of my dream too fast and lost most of it. What I was able to remember though I scrambled to write down on the pad I keep on my bedside table.
From what I could recall I was going to see a townhouse with a realtor but before we even got inside she said, “Let’s go. This one’s no good.” I asked her why and she pointed to a massive pile of rocks along the side of the house. She said the back patio was completely covered in rocks and that there was also a dangerous cliff at the edge – and she turned to go expecting that I’d follow her. I did start to go with her when it dawned on me that I should go see for myself first.
“Wait,” I called as she neared the end of the driveway, “I want to see what you’re talking about.” I turned and walked around to the side of the house toward the rocks. As I got closer I saw that there was an opening in the rock pile that had been hidden by a bush. I pushed the branches aside and made my way into the patio. As I released the branches behind me and looked up I was pleasantly surprised to see a lovely flagstone patio – that wasn’t covered in rocks. There was also an enormous mountain range soaring up to the sky beyond the patio. I walked to the cliff at the patio’s edge and looked down and saw a palatial mansion with terraced gardens and a patio of its own that had a huge sculptured fountain in a pool. I heard the water from the fountain gently raining into the pool. It was absolutely beautiful and tranquil back there. I was annoyed that I’d almost listened to the agent and left.
Later, I thought about the dream just before meditating. It occurred to me that lately I’d allowed the so-called experts on economic issues to negatively impact my thinking rather than following my instincts, and it had been bothering me. I understood what the dream was saying – Listen to your gut and don’t make decisions based what an expert says when it feels wrong to you.
In my “day job” I’m in sales in the real estate industry and this week all kinds of statistics were released indicating that things were not getting better and prices were dropping. Also, it’s typically quiet this time of year which added to my feelings of panic. So upon reading this information I’d allowed it to literally shake me to my core and topple me off the balance I usually maintained regarding my future. I’d been feeling constant flutterings of anxiety in the lower abdomen area for a few days now since reading these articles. No amount of meditation seemed to quell this anxiety either – which I hadn’t taken the time to explore regarding its source.
It’s easy to allow others with more experience in certain areas to influence you; in fact it seems downright logical, but when the information or decisions negatively impact you it’s time to step back, take a deep breath and review. Lucky for me, my dream put me back in touch with the source of my anxiety and I was able to calm down and re-center in meditation today.
What it always comes down to is being able to trust your gut, or your own intuition. In this case I’d been second guessing myself about my decisions lately. If you don’t listen to your intuition it will find a way to speak to you – mine came through in the dream. I was getting nervous about selling my house, possibly wondering if I waited would prices go up, and because I’m not sure where I’m moving to. I was starting to feel that I had made a bad plan, but my dream put me back on course. The beauty beyond the pile of rocks confirmed that I only had to push past the seemingly obvious obstacles to find what I was looking for; peace, tranquility and joy.
From now on I’m going with my gut. How about you? Are you willing to trust you gut/intuition?

Hi Angela,
Your interpretation is spot on. What you can do is special, because not everyone can interpret their dreams so accurately. I think that comes with practice. You have given me incentive to keep trying!
I agree with trusting your gut. When things are going wrong, I physically get an upset stomach! Very strange but true. Have a great July 4th!
Hi Jenny,
I’m so glad you enjoyed the post.
Yes, interpreting dreams does come with practice.
I’m so glad I’ve given you incentive to keep trying!
Wow, you must be very sensitive if you feel thing in your gut so strongly.
I bet if you focus on listening to your intuition it would become very strong very quickly.
Happy 4th of July to you too!
Angela,
What a pleasant dream with powerful message. Many times we get under peer pressure and do not listen to our own gut feelings.
No one knows you more than you do, hence we should listen to us when it comes to us and sometimes it is not easy but we must try.
Hi Preeti,
Yes, it was a pleasant dream with a powerful message. So true – peer pressure can be difficult to navigate.
I’ve learned by trial and error – mostly error – over the years to listen to my intuition.
Thank you so much for visiting and commenting.
Hi Angela,
What a perfect metaphor you were given in your dream. I love how the spirit realm comes up with these great metaphors for situations -I’ve had a few of those recently myself.
I also like that your dream gives you the confirmation to decide for yourself and consult yourself – not other people. Very empowering!
Hi Anna,
I’ve always relied on my dreams to guide me and give me answers. Dreams are fascinating, aren’t they? I don’t doubt you’ve had some great insights come through your dreams as well. Dreams are empowering once you learn how to interpret their messages.
Thanks so much for visiting and commenting Anna!
Angela, what a great dream. You are obviously very absorbed in the realm of intuition right now. It’s even permeating your sub-conscious. Made a great story and post. I am learning to trust my gut, yes. Or learning to hear it more clearly is more the point and then heed its call. Thanks for perking my ears up again. Cheers.
Hi Katie,
I’m glad you enjoyed the dream and this post. So true- intuition has permeated my subconscious.
I’m so glad you’re learning to trust your gut and to hear your intuition more clearly.
Glad I could perk up your ears!
Thanks so much for visiting and commenting too!
Angela, you have become the wind that pushes me towards my intuition lately and I am so grateful.
How you communicate the nuances of intuition is incredibly helpful as it allows me to recognize it in myself.
“No amount of meditation seemed to quell this anxiety either – which I hadn’t taken the time to explore regarding its source.” and “If you don’t listen to your intuition it will find a way to speak to you”
This hit me, because I recognize these moments and part of me ignores it and another part says – hey, it’s telling me something.
Your posts have made me more aware of when I’m fighting my intuition and I truly thank you for this gift.
Aileen,
I’m so grateful to you! I feel that if just one person is more open to their intuition than I have done what I set out to do!
It gets easier over time to hear and listen to our intuition. Every time we do listen it’s positive reinforcement for the next time.
I’m only too happy to be of help.
Thank you so much for your comments.
Thanks for this reminder, Angela. This happens to all of us, certainly to me. Outside influences are difficult to ignore. But as you listed in one of your last posts, there are so many successful entrepreneurs who were at first discouraged from following thier course. I intend to navigate using my intuition.
Hi Rosemarie,
I feel I can never be reminded enough. Great way to put it – navigate your course using your intuition.
I know you’re going to get “there” too!
Thanks so much for all your support!
Hi Angela,
What a cool dream with a great message!
It’s interesting how following our gut can be very easy once we have disciplined ourselves to do it. However, it does take time to unlearn old habits and fully trust our instincts. Logic can definitely get in the way at times if we let it.
Hi Glen,
Glad you liked the dream and message. Yes, once you get in the habit of following your gut it becomes second nature.
Yes, so true – logic does try to sneak in and masquerade as intuition.
Thanks so much for your comments!
This is a good one, Angela. It is so easy to get caught up in what the “experts” think is right for us. People thought I was crazy for buying up property in less-than-desirable locations in Boston. I trusted my gut and saw the beautiful surrounding landscape and amazing Victorian architecture (although in decrepit condition.) People gasp today when I tell them what I paid back then.
Whenever the world-voice shouts “no” it is time to give pause and reflect. Chances are it is a recycled thought that is passed on as fact. I love this blog because it such an important reminder to “know thyself.”
Hi Rob,
Glad you enjoyed this. I love Victorian architecture. I can only imagine what you paid – and I’m gasping too!
Yes, you’re right when the world shouts no – time to rethink and reflect.
Definitely, know theyself is most important.
Thanks so much for your comments Rob.
Hi, Angela! There have been such times when I’ve also allowed so called experts to convince me against my intuition. But in time, I’ve also learned to trust upon the wisdom God Himself has given me. When important matters come up, I should always remember praying, because this allows me to get in touch not only with external “expert” knowledge, but with the Source of all Wisdom, who alone can guide me better by Spirit, rather than by might. 😉
Hi Jocelyn,
Yes, I guess it happens to all of us. We give away our power to others when we believe they’re more knowledgable than we are. I agree with you – you call it prayer and I call it meditation, but when we listen we will hear the voice of wisdom speaking to us.
