“Every soul is not only the inlet but may become the outlet of all there is in God.” –Ralph Waldo Emerson

Hands on healing, laying on of hands, spiritual healingToday I have the pleasure of introducing you to another dear friend, spiritual healer and medium, Andrea Atack.

1. What area of the intuitive arts do you specialize in?

I specialize in Intuitive Reiki. Reiki is an ancient “laying of hands” healing technique that uses the life force energy to heal and balance the subtle energies within our bodies. What’s in The Box? Outcome to A Remote Viewing Experiment

Are you ready to find out: What’s In The Box?

In my previous post I proposed a remote viewing experiment based upon an evening I spent learning psychic detective techniques directly from psychic detective, Nancy du Tertre.

In class I held a box with something in it that I couldn’t see, and I had to come up with impressions for what the object was. To my great surprise the images I received were very significant!

There was so much interest in this exercise that I put together our own experiment for readers of Powered by Intuition titled: What’s in The Box? Read More

Is There a Difference Between Intuition, Psychism and Mediumship?

Posted 11 Jun 2010 — by Angela Artemis
Category Intuition, Mediumship, Psychic Development

Can you tell the difference between an intuitive flash and a psychic one?

Would you know if you heard a voice if it was coming from your intuition or from another source?

The other day I was responding to comments from my interview with Hulbert Lee on his blog, From Bottom Up and I got a very interesting question from blogger, Farnoosh Brock creator of Prolific Living. Farnoosh asked if there was a difference between intuition and premonitions? She’d had a few experiences and wasn’t sure what to classify them as.

The term intuition is used very loosely these days. Most people using it don’t realize that when they use the word intuition they’re using it to cover both intuitive and psychic experiences, or abilities.

In the last few years I’ve noticed that many psychics began calling themselves intuitives – me included. I’d always felt people judged me when I used the word psychic to define my abilities, so I decided to soften it by saying I was an intuitive. After all every one’s intuitive, right? It seemed to be more readily accepted and respectable than saying I was a psychic. The word psychic always brought to mind some storefront with a cheesy neon sign and fortune teller inside just waiting to tell you there was a curse on you.

The only problem in calling myself an intuitive rather than a psychic is that they are two very different things. If you’re psychic than you’re definitely intuitive, but being intuitve doesn’t mean you’re also psychic. Just as being psychic doesn’t guarantee you’ll also have mediumistic abilities.

Here’s how you can tell the difference.

1. There are three very different forms of communication that are beyond the five senses. They all fall under the realm of Extra-Sensory Perception and they are; intuition, psychic perceptions (also called psychism)  and mediumship.

2. Intuition comes from within. It’s your own wisdom, or higher self speaking to you and guiding you and protecting you from harm. If you have a gut feeling, or strong emotion like dread or fear, or sense that something is going to happen to someone, or something bad is going to happen to you it’s called a premonition, or presentiment, and it falls under the category of Intuition. I wrote an in depth post about how to recognize your intuition speaking to you. Click here to read it.

3. Psychic information comes from outside of you. It can come from another person, such as in mind to  mind communication, called telepathy. It can come from reading the energy of another person – their aura. It can come from projecting the mind to other locations to gain information at a distance which is called Remote Viewing.

There are three main forms of psychic communication; clairvoyance, clairaudience,  and clairsentience.

There’s also other “clairs” such as smelling things or tasting things that are not physically present as well but not as common as the other clairs.

Clairvoyance is the ability to see things that are not physically present mostly with the third eye, or mind’s eye, but there are times when things can be seen with the eyes open but only by the psychic. Clairvoyance is also called Remote Viewing.

This is what happened to Farnoosh. She has seen events exactly as they were going to happen, “I have foreseen a car accident exactly as it happened 8 days later and running into an old ex who lived in a far away state the day before I ran into him.” If you SEE the event as picture in your mind before it occurs than you’re having a clairvoyant vision. This is precognition, also called future sight, or knowledge of the future.

Clairaudience is information that is heard mostly within the mind. Sometimes it does come as a physical voice, but cannot be heard by anyone other than the psychic. For example last Saturday I was sitting at my kitchen counter reading an email when I heard this: “Hulbert is going to interview you.” It came into my mind from outside of me as a voice speaking in my head. It stood out from my normal mind chatter. A few hours later an email from Hulbert arrived asking if he could interview me.

Clairsentience is the ability to feel the emotion or state of mind of others or the pains they have in their body and is very common with psychics and mediums. Many healers experience this when they are working with their patients as well.

3. Mediumship communication comes from outside of you also, but instead of coming from another person it comes from a discarnate personality – meaning someone who has died and no longer has a body. Mediumship also uses all the clairs to communicate with spirits.

Betsy Henry, blogger and creator of How To Be A Zen Mama said the evening that her grandmother passed away, “I had an experience that my grandmother sat on my bed the night she died. I could feel her weight on the bed and her presence.” This was a mediumistic communication Betsy’s grandmother communicated using clairsentience wherein Betsy was aware of her presence.

This is just a quick over view and not meant to be the complete guide to extra-sensory perception. I hope you find it helpful and that it makes this clearer to you.

If you have any questions about experiences you’ve had please share them in the comments and I’ll be happy to clarify them.

And, if you enjoyed this post please share it on Facebook or Retweet it on Twitter. Thank you!

Messages of Hope From Beyond

Is divine guidance available to us at all times?

Do we truly have access to inspiration and wisdom beyond our present consciousness?

In the silence of meditation, I heard the words. Eyes closed, paper in my lap, I wrote the sentences as they came to me. This had happened before.  The sentiments were beautiful, but each time I couldn’t stop myself from thinking, I’m making this up.

Yes, by then I’d begun not just writing books about mediums, but practicing as one myself –bringing through unmistakable evidence for those who sat with me that their loved ones were around.  Still, where was the evidence that the words I heard alone in the silence weren’t my own thoughts?

And then it hit me with unexpected clarity:  These weren’t just random thoughts … these words were rhyming.

A line flowed from my pen to the paper, only to be forgotten as I listened for the next.  I felt the bottom of the page and turned to a fresh one until the words finally stopped.  Now it was my tears that flowed at the brilliance of the spirit world.  They knew I would never believe I hadn’t authored the words myself, so they sent me a poet.

Yes, as an author and a speaker, words were my tools, but poetry was alien to me. With my black and white brain, honed from 20 years in the Navy, I’d always felt there was only one way to interpret poetry, and if I didn’t “get it right,” then I had failed.  So I stuck to prose.

Until the day the poetry started.

Thus began my daily voyage of discovery into the wonders and wisdom of the world beyond our physical senses. The poems number in the hundreds now, and each one comes to me in deep meditation.  I merely take dictation, writing non-stop with pen in hand, paper in my lap … meaningful, multi-stanza verses in mere minutes.  Always I write with eyes closed, except for the one time the voice told me to open them and look.  When I did, I saw that my pen had run out of ink.

They didn’t want me to miss a word.

I never know the theme of the day’s poem until it comes through. The rhythm, rhyming pattern, and voice change frequently, yet always there is a comforting, loving message with the unifying thread of oneness.  The poems may never win a prize for their literary value, but those who read them tell me the words have a special calming, healing effect.  I know this is because they carry the energy of their Source.

Few may hear poetry from beyond, but is wisdom available to all of us in the silence? The poets nod their heads …

A Thank You Note And a Letter To My Readers -

The Crystal Ball
Image via Wikipedia

First, I’d like to say a HUGE thank you to my dear friend Rosemarie Monaco for the two wonderful articles she contributed last week while I was away.

I took the week off from work to attend a 5 day intensive advanced mediumship course that ran from 9 am to 7 pm.

It was exhausting and, Yes, I said mediumship.

I know I haven’t spoken much, actually ever, on the blog about the depth of my intuitive consulting practice – so now you know, and here it is.

To be very honest I’d been debating about whether I should address this in the blog at all -

Many “intuitives,” which is what we call ourselves today, use that term because the words Psychic and Medium have negative connotations. You hear the word psychic and you think of someone dressed in far out clothing with their hands on a crystal ball, or the word medium and you immediately see The Ghost Whisperer helping legions of supposed “earth-bound” spirits cross over.

Well, I’m here to let you know these are stereo-types and notions as full of holes as Swiss cheese. I’m neither kooky nor far-out. The mediums I associate with are highly credible professionals – and not Woo-Woo types at all. (I’m not saying there aren’t flakes, fakes, frauds and cons out there – ’cause there are – but you can learn to discern the difference).

The 70 people I spent my week getting to know were educated and from the fields of business, finance, real estate, insurance, retired military, medicine, hospice care, clergy, and education – and I’m sure I left out a few. Nobody wore any weird clothing or acted like they were in a Harry Potter movie. They traveled from all over the world to attend this course in the NY area taught by faculty from the Arthur Findlay College in the UK.

Take me for example – I’ve got a 25 year background in private banking, personal financial planning and real estate finance.  I wear suits to my office, carry a brief-case, and in the past took the train to the World Trade Center to walk to my office headquarters on Water Street in the financial district. Does that sound Woo-Woo to you?

Some top bloggers might say I should tread lightly regarding articles addressing this mediumship, but after the week I had at this extensive course I realized that this is who I am – and I have to write about what I know. I could do a bang-up job on a personal finance blog – but that’s not where my heart is.

I’ve been intuitive and psychic since I was a kid and it’s grown into mediumship - which is the natural progression for this type of ability. I never expected nor desired to become a medium. It just started happening little by little on its own during readings 10 years ago. I’ve just begun taking it seriously 3 years ago – which is why I’m now hard at work taking development courses.

For anyone who is not aware of what a medium does – here it is in a nutshell: We are the voices for those who no longer have a voice in this plane of existence.  Our goal is to show that our consciousness survives the transition we call Death and that the love we felt for and from those we’ve “lost” lives on too. It’s not scary or anything like you see on television or the movies. The point of knowing our consciousness survives is to know that our physical life is only the first part of our vast education as a sentient being, and that what we do and how we live our lives here on the Earth Plane matters.

So, in the weeks to come I’ll be writing more in-depth posts about Mediumship. I’ll also continue to write about changing your thinking, spiritual growth, and intuition and psychic abilities and how to develop yours.

I’d like to know if you’re interested in learning more about mediumship?

Would you like to know how “it” works?

Please leave me a comment and if you are interested tell me what you’d like to learn about mediumship, and the other topics I cover in Powered by Intuition.

Any burning questions? Let me know what they are too.

If you’re not interested – let me know that too!

Most Sincerely,

Angela

Since my father passed away in September I’ve gotten into the habit of having a conversation with him each night before I go to sleep. After keeping him up to date on what’s going on in the family,  I usually end by asking the same thing, “Show me what it was like to cross over.  I want to see what you saw and feel what you experienced.”

The evening of my father’s death  a dear friend and fellow medium, Andrea Attack, had spoken to  my father and  he told her that his crossing over had been a “fantastic ride.” Once I heard that – and that he was doing fine, among other messages, I was so relieved, but I wanted to know more about what he’d experienced. So, ever since I’ve been asking him, if possible, please show me. Read More
