We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us. –Joseph Campbell
How to make your flame burn brighter this year
New Year’s Day is when we start thinking of how we’d like our lives to be in the coming year.
We review our accomplishments and make resolutions.
Most resolutions don’t last very long
Studies show that most resolutions don’t last past the month of January. More than 77 percent of people who say they want to lose weight never do.
Why do we keep making resolutions?
We believe if we don’t set these goals we won’t accomplish anything at all.
This is what I’ve always believed about myself too. I’ve always been afraid I’d be a lazy do-nothing without goals to aspire too.
Changing the game plan
Leo Babauta has written extensively about not setting goals and going “goal-free.” As proponent of “following your intuition,” what some people might call their “bliss,” this appeals to me a great deal. I’ve just been too scared to do commit to it. Read More

One of the greatest personal challenges of life is to have the constant motivation in whatever things we are doing.
Starting the process of creating a life for ourselves always seems to be the easiest. Beyond that, staying motivated and committed to our goals and purpose becomes the day to day monotonous challenge for us. Read More

Do you ever wish the world would stop turning so you could get off?
When things don’t go as you expect do you lay awake thinking of how to “fix it?”
On Friday I found out that my book would not be finished on time.
The editor working on my manuscript accidentally edited a very early version, not the updated version I’d sent. This will delay my book another month, at least. Read More

Some days it’s hard to be optimistic.
Some days you feel bone tired and bone dry of creativity.

Then you hear from someone who tells you that what you’re doing inspired them, or really helped them deal with their depression, or writer’s block, or fear, or financial problems and you press on. Read More
So many of us work for years in professions that don’t match who we really are inside.
We’re aware that we’re unhappy with what we’re doing, but we don’t know any other way so we continue doing the same old thing day in and day out.
Then one day we hear this little voice urging us to do something else that we feel drawn to. It could be anything; cooking, painting, starting a business, writing, going back to school, etc., and suddenly we Read More
