Why You’re Not Living Your Purpose and Fulfilling Your Potential

Why You’re Not Living Your Purpose and Fulfilling Your Potential

Why aren't you living up to your full potential

So, why aren’t you living your purpose and fulfilling your potential?

We might even question why we are stuck in jobs we hate and work with people with whom we can’t relate, when some people seem to find something they love to do and appear to love their lives. The answer is that we are either afraid to listen to our intuition and take that leap of faith, or we truly haven’t heard our intuition our whole lives. p. 11 The Intuition Principle

Answering the intuitive call

If you feel that you’re not living your purpose, fulfilling your potential and that there has to be more to life, then your Intuition is trying to get your attention. You’re feeling this because it’s your Truth. You’ve got to tune into that unique thing in you that wants to be expressed. And if it continues to elude you find out what’s blocking it from surfacing.

Fear is the reason why most people don’t live their purpose and fulfill their potential. Fear keeps them stuck in their comfort zone. It’s also the reason behind the lack of clarity about their purpose.

When someone says to me, “I don’t know my purpose and I don’t feel drawn to anything.”

The very next question I ask them is this, “What would you be doing if money were not a concern?”

Of course asking this hypothetical question opens the flood gate of desire within them and out comes the purpose they’ve suppressed for years!

Why? Because, the fear of going past the edge of their comfort zone produced so much anxiety that it was much easier to suppress their desire and intuition and think they “didn’t know their purpose.” If you don’t know your purpose there’s no way you can actualize it, right?

Your purpose isn’t hiding from you

Ask yourself what you would be doing if money were no object and you’ll see you do have desires. It’s just that all the fearful voices about living it drown out your intuition. When you have that dream well up inside of you and feel excited that’s an intuitive pull toward living your purpose. Living your purpose means changing your life in some way, and for most people that’s really scary. Your fears about change are what keep you stuck not living your purpose.

Fear is a powerful emotion

You’ve got to be clear on which fears are stopping you. Once you locate the exact fear you can breakthrough it and deflate it. If you don’t consciously deal with your fears you allow them to dictate your reactions, behavior and life in general. And that’s how people get stuck not living their purpose and fulfilling their potential.

How to overcome fear in three steps

  1. Identify your specific fear(s) by asking yourself, “What am I afraid of?”
  2. Deflate them using logic.
  3. Keep doing this on every fear that comes up until no more come up.

Here are three examples:

Fear – You’re going to fail.

All people who set out to do something fail at some point. Thomas Edison said, “I have not failed. I just found 10000 ways that don’t work.” Sure you might fail but so what? Isn’t it better to strive toward actualizing your purpose than to sit around cowering in fear and do nothing? Plus, you don’t know what wonderful things may befall you because you got out there and tried. Sitting home in fear isn’t going to bring new people and experiences into your life is it?

Fear – You’re too old.

If you can read you’re not too old to learn about a subject that interests you. If you have the desire you can go back to school or take courses to learn what you need to. Most people who say this are really thinking about how long it will take and how old they’ll be when they’ve fully integrated this “purpose” into their lives. But the truth is however old you are now you will eventually be XX years old anyway. So isn’t it better to use the next couple years getting to where you want to be?

Fear – You won’t make any/enough money.

This is a common fear that stops a lot of people. Who says you have to quit your job? Pursue your purpose on the side. Do it for the sake of feeling fulfilled and satisfied. If you later feel that there is a path toward making your purpose your full time gig go for it. There are no rules when it comes to living your life purpose. Doing what you love on the side doesn’t make it any less of a life purpose.

Stop putting so much pressure on yourself

I want to clear up a notion about life purpose….many people think their purpose has to be grandiose in order to “qualify” as a life purpose but that’s not true. And that may be the reason some people go in circles for years searching for their purpose.

Your life purpose satisfies something in you.

It’s the thing that lights you up and you cannot help but be drawn to doing it. It doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with any specific job, making money, fame or being viewed as successful.

Your life purpose is a unique expression of you

Perhaps you are a fabulous host or hostess and your dinner parties are legendary. You’re a born nurturer and love bringing people together over a home cooked meal at your home. That’s a purpose because it’s satisfying something in you and that’s why you do it.

To actualize your purpose and fulfill your potential you have to overcome the fears that stop you first. Once you’re free of the fear that suppresses your purpose it will come to light and you will start living it and living up to your potential.

What fears are holding you back? Will you apply logic to deflate them? Share with us in the comments.

5 Steps to Living Your Purpose

5 Steps to Living Your Purpose

Find your purpose

Are you living your purpose?

When you live your purpose you are living up to your full potential and greatness.

Have you been contemplating following your soul’s purpose for years but not found the courage to actually go for it? Or are you still confused as to what your true path, purpose or destiny in life are?

Do you instinctively feel that you’re meant to do something bigger and to be of service in a greater capacity but try as you might, you can’t get clear on what this contribution is?

When you start living your purpose you’ve hit your stride—and you know it. It’s as if you’re on fire and there’s an undeniable pull from inside taking you forward toward accomplishing something that excites you and, ignites others around you as well. You exude confidence and a ‘knowingness’ about where you’re headed that other people sense. This energy magnetizes situations, circumstances and people to you that help propel you forward on your mission with greater ease.

When you hit your stride by living on purpose you live what I call an “Intuitively Inspired Life” and as I said earlier, you know it. You’ll know you’re living your purpose because of your high energy level and enthusiasm about facing each new day. And should challenges arise you tackle them with courage and fierce determination. Your intuition fires at full throttle so you constantly receive guidance about your course. And should you veer off-course your intuition sends you the impulse to “course-correct.”

You’ll begin making progress toward the accomplishment of your goals more quickly. Fortunate coincidences orchestrating situations, circumstances and people that support your efforts will arise out of the clear blue enabling you to arrive at your destination seamlessly. People will be drawn to you because of the quality and clarity of your energy. The more solely focused you are on your purpose the more of a courageous leader you become, and that clear single focus is the energy pattern you exude that magnetizes people to you. That’s what living an intuitively inspired life by living your purpose looks like!

Why Living Your Purpose is Important

Finding and living your purpose makes life rich and more meaningful. People who live on-purpose live longer and are happier. They live life courageously, more fully and with fewer fears dictating what they will or wont try. The courage to move ahead even if they are afraid means they take more risks but with more risk there are opportunities for more reward. This courage to act leads them to becoming leaders, change-makers and way-showers.

Their vision and drive help them to accomplish things that positively impact the world. They have an over-arching vision and strong belief system about what they’re doing. They instinctively feel that what they’re doing is important and, not just because it might have financial value but because of how it will positively effect people’s lives.

Their excitement and enthusiasm stem directly from the impact expressing their purpose will make in the world and many become purpose-driven entrepreneurs. Examples of purpose-driven entrepreneurs are people like Stacey Boyd founder of Schoola a company that sells used clothing to help schools raise funds and, Dr. Amit Goffer founder of ReWalk whose invention of an exoskeleton helps people with spinal chord injuries walk again.

How to Be On-Purpose and Live an Intuitively Inspired Life

Follow these 5 daily steps to help you begin living your purpose and an intuitively inspired life:

1.First you must know your purpose. Make time each day to listen to your own internal intuitive voice. Sit quietly in meditation or contemplation for 10 -15 minutes and listen.

2.Journal every day about what comes up during your morning quiet time. To help you flow easily into writing start with this writing prompt at the top of your page: Today I was inspired by 5 new ideas…and then begin writing the ideas that came to you in detail.

3.Give your subconscious a command before going to sleep each night. Tell yourself that you want to have a dream that will illuminate what your life purpose is. Keep a note pad by your bed and be sure to write down your dream first thing in the morning.

4.Test out the life purpose ideas that inspire you by trying them on “for size” If you do this you’ll soon feel if this purpose really fits you. You may live with a purpose for a week, a month or a year or longer before you realize it doesn’t truly fit you. That’s okay! I promise if you do this and keep moving forward by following the three previous tips daily you WILL eventually land squarely on the life purpose that does fit you to a Tee.

5.Celebrate. When you do land on that right purpose you will know it! You will hit your stride and you will find that things change quickly as all the stars align for you so that you can actualize this purpose and begin your life’s great work.

If you have the guts to follow your intuition and not give up too soon perhaps you will be the next leader who will make the world a better place someday.

Free Intuition Training: Do the Opposite & Find Your Purpose

Free Intuition Training: Do the Opposite & Find Your Purpose

Do the opposite of what you've always done

Free Intuition Training: Do the Opposite and Find Your Purpose

I first realized I was “different” when I was eight.

My sister, best friend and I were outside playing. My friend nonchalantly mentioned, “Did you know that XXX’s Daddy died?” I immediately heard a “voice” say, “He died of liver disease” which I repeated to my sister and best friend.

Later I told my mother that XXX’s Daddy had died of “liver disease.”

I recall my mother’s reaction as she demanded I tell her, “Who told you that?”

It was clear she was angry that I knew this which, I didn’t understand. I tried to tell her that I just “knew” but she wouldn’t believe me. She kept asking who told me?

She thought I was lying which upset me but I didn’t know what to say. I didn’t know who spoke to me in my mind? It was very confusing to an 8 year old.

I also understand now that back then people didn’t talk about alcoholism. It was taboo. My mother wasn’t so much angry at my “knowing” as she was worried about me going around the neighborhood saying that this man had died of “liver disease.”

Now I know that “voice” was my intuition. At 8 years old I had never heard that word. All I knew was that there was something different about me and how I got information that my mother thought was “wrong” so clearly it must be, right?

This started my life long struggle with trusting and following my intuition.

**********************

When I began my journey of sharing how listening to my intuition would impact my life five years ago (January 9th was PbI’s 5 year anniversary) I had no idea where I was headed.

My plan was to do the “opposite” of what I had been doing my entire life and chronicle how it affected me in my new blog: Powered by Intuition (which was originally called Mystic Musings & Meditations).

By 2010 I’d had enough of making the wrong decisions and being unhappy. I decided that from that moment on I would listen to my intuition for every single solitary decision I made.

I had gone into the wrong career, studied the wrong subject in college, married the wrong person, not gone on all the adventures I dreamed of like living in Europe and on and on and as a result I was stuck in a life I didn’t like at all. I realized that the problem was that I hadn’t followed my heart–my intuition. I had listened to other people for fear of making mistakes, being wrong and done what I thought “rational” and “sensible” people did instead.

Following my intuition from now on would be own my experiment of “doing the opposite.”

If you’re a Seinfeld fan you might recall the episode where George Costanza decides to do the exact opposite of what he’d been doing his whole life. He realized that every decision he made in his life had been wrong so, he does the opposite and and his life turns around.

So how has five years of following my intuition turned out?

Pretty good. The more I followed my intuition the more great things came into my life.

Of course, there were time I ignored it and made mistakes but every mistake only made it easier to listen the next time.

It led to my becoming a published best-selling author, speaker and mentor teaching others how to find their purpose and how to create a lifestyle business like mine around their purpose if they so choose.

Teaching others how to follow their intuition to create lives of meaning and purpose by living “The Intuition Principle” deeply fulfills me and is what makes me the happiest.

So here’s to five years of intuition led living!

To celebrate this milestone I’d like to give something special to the Powered by Intuition community.

Do You Focus on Your Struggles? Change Your Mindset

Do You Focus on Your Struggles? Change Your Mindset

Woman under pressure, focused on struggle

Do you focus on your struggles?

Many times we get so caught up in focusing on what we don’t want that we forget that we can change our mindset. Have you forgotten?

If so, I’m glad you’re reading this. I forget sometimes too……and have to remind myself that I can change my mindset.

I like to think of my mindset as if it were a television. When I realize I’ve spent way too much time on a broadcast that depresses me and makes me feel worse I can change the channel. And you can change your channel too.

There will always be struggles and challenges in our lives. That’s just part of life. The sooner we accept this and find a way to navigate challenges without letting them dictate our state of mind the happier we will be overall.

It’s okay to be unhappy and upset when things happen. That’s normal and you’re human after all. There is a point however that we have to pick ourselves up and deal with what life has dealt us. We can’t wallow in our negative mindset and expect to feel better. Once the initial shock and pain has subsided it’s time to do what’s necessary.

The only thing we truly can control is our mindset

The truth is we have little control over any circumstances other than our mindset so, to let circumstances keep us focused on the station that reruns the same depressing show over and over is insane. We must choose to change the channel away from the one rebroadcasting the obstacles and challenges in our lives. Choosing to change the channel showing our problems doesn’t mean we ignore them. The problems are real and they aren’t going away unless we DO SOMETHING!

Doing something about our problems is the way out of them. No amount of wishing or visualizing and repeating affirmations is going to change things until we take action.

Want a better job? Get your resume cleaned up!

Want to improve your health? Get rid of the junk food!

Want a loving partner? Be the loving partner that you wish to attract!

Want to support yourself with your spiritual or healing gifts? Learn to market yourself.

But we can feel better while we work our way out of our problems. That’s what changing the channel is all about.

Mindset Matters

When you take action it’s important to focus on what you want and not what you don’t. Instead of focusing on how much you dislike the current job you’re in while you’re looking for a new one turn your thought process around. Focus on how you would feel if you already had a job you love. Tap into those emotions right now. Send out those resumes, call up old colleagues and see if they know of any openings and go to networking meetings while you’re feeling all pumped up and excited about already having this awesome new job.

You’re attitude pervades everything that you do. Feeling great, as if you already have a job you love, while taking action is going to open more doors than going around complaining and whining about your current job.

How to Change the Channel On  Your Mindset in 5 Steps:

1. Define the problem. What’s eating you? Hate your job, dislike where you live, want lose weight, not making enough money?

2. What would you like instead? Ask yourself what you would like instead? A job you love, a home in a place you love, a healthy strong slim body, having more than enough money to have and do everything you desire? Be specific!

3. Elicit the emotions behind having what you’d like instead. Ask yourself this magic question: Why do I want “this” instead? Here’s an example: Say you are focusing on how unhappy you are in your current home. You ask yourself what you’d like instead and you say you’d like to live in a house overlooking a river in mountains.

Now ask the “magic” question: Why? You reply, “Because I love seeing mountains as far as the eye can see and I love seeing water. But why…….keep digging until you hit the emotion behind the reason you want what you want. You ask “why” again and the answer is because you feel blissful, joyous and at peace when you’re in a natural setting. So now you’ve gotten to the root of the emotion you want to tune into: joy and peace.

4. Change the channel! Put your attention on the beautiful way you feel in your new mountain home overlooking a river. See the house….the garden, the soaring mountains all around you and the sparkling water as it rushes downriver. Feel the joy and peace and the thrill of living where your soul is nourished.

5. Take inspired action. Now with this feeling in the forefront of your mind take the actions you need to take to change the circumstances of your life. Call the realtor you met in the grocery checkout line……..visit some open houses for properties along the river, clean out a few closets in preparation for your move. Indulge your senses in the emotions and experience of owning a home in your ideal spot.

I guarantee that if you change your channel from your struggles, problems and what you don’t want in your life to the channel that features what you want and makes you feel AMAZING and take action to change your circumstances your life will ultimately become an amazing reflection of the emotions you feel. Try it now!

What channel is your mindset on? What channel would you prefer to watch instead? How will this impact your life?

What’s Your Unique Moneymaking Proposition?

What’s Your Unique Moneymaking Proposition?

Unique moneymaking proposition

Do you know your “Unique Moneymaking Proposition?”

Unique Moneymaking Proposition (UMP) is a term I use to describe the potential each of us has to harness our gifts to make a living doing something we love.

Spiritual and Intuitive souls are the first to overlook their gifts.

I have found this to be the case time and time again. Many clients I serve are spiritual and intuitive and they come to me looking for coaching around finding their life purpose. They desperately want to leave jobs they dislike but they are stumped as to what they can do instead.

Clue: Your Unique Moneymaking Proposition is always actually “hidden in plain sight.”

Why does your Unique Moneymaking Proposition appear to be hidden?

Most people are unable to assess themselves accurately. They’re blind to what others can see. This is why it’s so helpful to work with a mentor or a coach. They can see what you don’t and bring it to your attention. They will easily spot the things about you that make you unique that you take for granted.

Your UMP is always something you are already doing, probably since you were very young that comes naturally and easily to you. And that is why you take it for granted and can never “find it.” It’s too obvious!

When things come naturally and easily to us we tend to enjoy doing them. It’s not a grind. We are just being ourselves.

Why should you want to find your Unique Moneymaking Proposition?

If you long to find work that truly fulfills you start by finding your UMP. When you identify what your good at and enjoy doing you’ll easily find the right work. This goes for anyone hoping to start their own business, or those of you in mid-life or nearing retirement looking for your second act.

So how do you find your Unique Moneymaking Proposition?

Your UMP is completely intertwined with your passion, purpose, mission, gifts, talents and blessings. There is a system to unearthing all six and identifying the common thread that runs through all of them. When they come together so does your unique moneymaking proposition along with doing work you love and living a life you love.

If you’re ready to find soul-satisfying work you love doing that comes easily to you and be paid well look no further than your UMP.

End the frustration of doing work that doesn’t fulfill you. Change your life quickly by finding your UMP with my Discover Your Purpose & Prosper program.

The Price of Living for Saturday (plus a special offer!)

Peaceful retirement

Do you live for Saturdays?

Do you live for the days when you’re not at work?

If so, that’s a clear sign that you’re not fulfilled by the work you do.

So many people live by going through the motions on Monday through Friday wishing that time away just waiting for Saturdays or, even worse retirement.

If you work for 50 years before you retire you will have wished nearly 33 years of your life away. And if you retire at 68 and live to be 85 that’s not much living is it?

That’s an astonishing amount of time to wish away, don’t you think? There is a better way.

Do you work you love and stop wishing time away

The way to finding work you love entails some nitty gritty work but in the long run it’s worth it. Find out what you love doing and figure out a way to make a living doing it.

The are ways to take what you have spent years mastering because you love it and use all that stored knowledge to make a living at it. People are hungry to learn what you have devoted 20 – 30 years to master.

Do you think you are the only one with a burning passion about say, photography, knitting, building furniture, permaculture or whatever you can think of? No, of course not. But you ARE the one who has devoted 20 -30 years learning everything there is to know about it. That gives you a marketable skill you can monetize.

What if you don’t know what you love?

There are ways to solve that problem too. What I have found from working with many clients is that they always know. Deep down they’ve heard their intuition whispering in their ear.  But they’ve buried this knowledge out of fear of what others might say or insecurities about their own worthiness to act upon it.

Your true calling is not hiding from you

Here’s an easy tip to find your calling: If you ask the people who know you best, “What do you think I’m passionate about and really good at?’ they’ll spit it right out. It’s that obvious to everybody but you!

How long will you wait?

How much time will you let pass before you act upon your calling? I can tell you from my own experience waiting for years or decades to do something about it is downright painful.

Take back your power and stop living for Saturday

Start now. Tomorrow is too late.

Here’s how to start looking forward to each and every day:

1. Take assessment. What you have become a self-taught expert in that people would pay you to learn in a short amount of time what it took you 20-30 years to learn? Make a list of these self-acquired talents now.

2. Eliminate the ones that do not light you up. Quick! Cross them right off – no second guessing yourself.

3. How many talents that you love are you left with? Make a nice new list of the ones that are left.

4. Review the new short list. Are these talents related? Can you find some way to weave them together? If so do that now. If you are only left with one that makes it even easier.

5. Brainstorm on the result. Take this expertise that people would pay you for to learn and start brainstorming ways that you can begin doing just that!
