Have you ever been in a reading that didn’t go well?
I can usually tell within the first few minutes if it’s going to flow or not.
There are all kinds of clients from skeptics and testers to individuals who refuse to acknowledge information to people who are really open and receptive.
Over the years I’ve encountered many different personality types and what I have realized is that no matter how hard I try it’s hard to be a pitcher when the batter refuses to hit the ball. And it makes for a very disappointing game.
My readings are done via telephone and Skype. I don’t do them in person nor do I use video because I don’t want any visual cues from the person I’m reading. So all I have is a voice and if the person being read is cagey with their answers, holds back from confirming what I give them or expects it to be perfection at every detail then it can be a long torturous hour.
When a psychic sees, or hears or feels something they aren’t getting the information using their physical senses. It’s the “perception” of seeing, or hearing or feeling which is very different from how we normally receive this information from our environment.
The impressions are fleeting and hard to hold onto. In addition unlike a memory you can’t always “pull it back up” when it’s gone because it’s something that wasn’t in your consciousness a nano second before.
There can also be difficulties at times when the client and you just don’t click – and no matter what you’re not going to be able to read them. You just have to accept that you’re not going to be a match for every person who comes to you.
The next time you have a reading scheduled ensure it’s a good one by being open and receptive.
Here’s what both psychic and the client need to know to have a good reading:
1. A reading is a two way street. Be open to being read. Keep an open mind and don’t put up “walls.” Walls are there for one reason only – to keep people out.
2. Give yourself privacy. Don’t have a reading if your spouse is home when you want to know whether your boyfriend is going to leave his wife for you. If you can’t talk or give answers to your psychic because you’re afraid of being overheard it’s going to inhibit the quality of the reading.
3. Give feedback when asked.Don’t answer with vague replies or withhold information to “test” your psychic. Withholding is similar to blocking. The more you are able to affirm the better the connection will be for picking up more information. A psychic’s energy locks onto the right frequency by getting confirmation from you.
4. Don’t expect perfection in every single detail. If the psychic describes your house as a white split level with the garage on the left and yours is on the right; cut them some slack. Of if you’re given the description of someone and you feel that you know who it is and all the details fit but the hair color, for example, don’t harp on one detail.
Even the best of the best baseball players only hit home runs 9% of the time so to expect perfection from your reader is unrealistic.
5. Get enough sleep. When you’re giving a reading be fully rested. If you haven’t had enough sleep and don’t feel up to it cancel and reschedule. This goes for if you’re not feeling well too.
6. Don’t eat a heavy meal.If you can avoid eating meat as well. Having a full stomach will interfere with the quality of the reading. This goes for both the psychic and the client.
7. Never give or have a reading when you’re under the influence of alcohol or drugs. No explanation needed, right? Just don’t do it. Spirit deserves much more respect than that.

Have you ever felt a yearning from deep down in your soul to return home?
Yesterday I attended the Seventh Annual New York City Greek Film Festival – it was a first for me.
The film I saw, “Hello Anatolia,” was a documentary about a young Greek-American man from New York who moves to Izmir (Smyrna) Turkey to trace his ancestral roots. His ancestors, like 200,000+ other Greeks, lived in Turkey until 1923 when they were forcibly removed, many slaughtered in the process.
Prior to 1923, for the most part Greeks living in Turkey had lived side by side with the Turks and enjoyed good relations. The beautiful memories prior to the diaspora that Greeks had of the centuries their families had flourished in the Asia Minor were shared with their children and grandchildren.
Filmmaker, Chrysovalantis Stamelos, grew up hearing these stories. The stories of his grandparents lives in old Smyrna tugged on something deep in his soul and he felt pulled to “return home.” Leaving his corporate job and all that he knew he ventured to parts unknown to find his roots. In the process he married a Turkish woman and decided to stay in Turkey and has since started a family. “Hello Anatolia” chronicles his journey and immersion into the culture of his newly adopted home where he finds more similarity between the two cultures (Greek and Turkish) than disparity.
Following his intuition Stamelos was pulled home and in the process discovered his destiny: to be a bridge between two peoples with a history of difficulties.
The “pull” of home
Returning to the land of our ancestors is a strong pull for many. It had been a dream of my father’s since he had been a boy. As a first generation American he too longed to retrace the steps of his parents and return to Greece.
My father’s dream was realized when I was a teenager and he took our family took to Greece to meet our relatives and see the island of Samothrace (Samothraki) where all four of my grandparents were born. The famous statue, Nike of Samothrace also known as The Winged Victory, now in the Louvre Museum in Paris came from the island of my ancestors.
The Winged Victory of Samothrace, (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
The island’s legendary family sired the Trojan race, gave form to the personification of Harmonia, and taught humans the sacred rites of the mysteria. Here, the parents of Alexander the Great first met, and two centuries later, the last Macedonian king, Perseus, held out against the Romans.
In antiquity, the fame of Samothrace emanated from its cult of the Megaloi Theoi, Great Gods, whose mysterious rites of initiation promised protection at sea and the opportunity to “become a better and more pious person in all ways.” Set in a cleft in the earth carved by a cascade of water at the base of the mountain, framed by converging streams, and facing toward the sea, the Sanctuary of the Great Gods feels spiritually integral to the deities of the earth, sky, and sea who played a fundamental role in the mysteria.
The trip left an indelible mark upon me and I made numerous trips after that on my own back to Greece and Samothrace. I loved being there surrounded by a culture that was so familiar yet different from my own as a Greek-American. I felt very much at home and found something very anchoring about rediscovering my roots. It made me feel “whole” as if I reclaimed a part of me that had been left behind in Greece in some way I cannot quite explain.
Years later I became captivated by the history of the ancient cult of the Great Gods in Samothrace. I often wonder if that is where my fascination with spirituality and metaphysics came from. The site of the mystery cult in Samothrace has been under excavation for years and years but yet, very little is really known about it.
The roots of intuition
I grew up reading Greek mythology. I particularly loved stories about the Oracle of Delphi. The oracle was always a woman. She sat above a chasm that emitted vapors that put her into an altered state. Once in this state she was able to divine the future. People traveled from all over the ancient world to learn their fate from the oracle.
When I was growing up, before I ever heard the world “clairvoyance” or “out of body experience” just before I fell asleep each night images flooded my mind of a magnificent mountainous landscape. I would soar like a bird over these peaks. I remember feeling as if I belonged there. It is still a vivid memory. But, it was not until I made the journey through the mountains and visited Delphi that I realized this was the landscape I had been seeing all those years.
At the time of my first trip to Greece and Delphi I was fourteen and had been doing readings for just a few years. I recall feeling very connected to to the area; as if being there was something important I should etch into my memory, for what reason I wasn’t clear about at the time.
As I look back on it now I believe the strong connection I felt was my soul’s pull toward developing my then budding intuition.
Your soul “knows” your path
There is a “pull” in each an every one of us. And, this pull is there to lead you in the direction you were meant to go in your life – your destiny. This is the pull of your soul speaking to you through your intuition. When you “feel” a strong pull to do something, especially when there is no rational reason, this is your intuition.
Intuition, in philosophy, [is a] way of knowing directly; immediate apprehension. The Greeks understood intuition to be the grasp of universal principles by the intelligence (nous), as distinguished from the fleeting impressions of the senses. The distinction used by the Greeks implied the superiority of intellectual intuitions over information received by the senses
Today I’m pleased to bring you an interview with Renee Scheltema. Renee’s film and book are based on her spiritual journey to into the science behind psychic phenomena.
I’ve seen the film and read the book and I recommend both highly if you are interested in the science behind psychic phenomena. (Renee’s book is on Amazon and FREE for a limited time – so do get your copy!)
1. Renee tell us why you wrote the film and book, “Something Unknown is Doing We Don’t Know What.”
I am a child of the scientific age, where explanations abound for most things, even bizarre things. It intrigued me that I could find a way to understand these certain “psychic” experiences.
Furthermore, I was fascinated by western research into the nature of the mind and consciousness. And so I resolved to search more deeply for explanations of psychic phenomena as well.
My early personal experience between my father and my sudden powerful compulsion to speak to him from so many thousand kilometers away would later become the catalyst for my research into psychic phenomena. Here is an excerpt from the book:
When I was at university in California I would phone my parents in the Netherlands once every three months, just to catch up. This was long before cell phones and the Internet, so I would walk about five blocks to the main campus and throw a quarter in the public telephone booth for a collect call to home.
An operator would then connect me to my country of birth. I would always phone around six p.m., as I was sure that my parents would be home.I had spoken to them two days before, so I did not expect to speak to them for months. It happened one morning when I was studying, and absorbed in reading my textbooks,I suddenly I had a powerful compulsion in mind and body to call my parents.
“This is crazy!” I thought. “Why am I doing this? I’ve got other things to do. I just spoke to them two days ago.” Yet within minutes, I found myself walking out of my room and down the road, past the five blocks to the public telephone booth.
The whole way I thought, “Why am I reluctantly walking here?” The strong impulse kept spurring me. I paid my quarter. The operator connected me and surprisingly my brother answered. This was odd, as he no longer lived at home. He said my father had had a stroke earlier that day and was in the intensive care unit of a hospital, fighting for his life. I felt sure that ‘something’ had communicated to me that there was an emergency and this urged me to make direct contact with my family. Luckily, my father survived.
This early experience spurred me to delve into this project along with the deeper telepathic occurrences that then continued between my family and I later on in life….
At the time when I decided to delve into making the film, “Something Unkown” I was working as a photographer and free-lance director for a Dutch TV station.
Sometimes I would be on contract to musician clients in the region of the Western Cape outside Cape Town. Throughout the 7 years of pre-film production and completing this project I experienced my many local, international and personal challenges.
Documentary filmmaking has been my way of life and career ever since the late 1970s. The television films on which I worked transported me to countries such as: China, Russia, Nepal, Egypt, Israel, Kenya, The Sudan, Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Burma and South Africa, to name a few. I tried to push boundaries with my stories having a strong sense of justice.
For example, I filmed in China in 1980, four years after Mao Tse Tung’s death.
During the Cold War, I secretly filmed in Russia and interviewed Jewish dissidents during the Olympic games in Moscow.
In 1988, I made a documentary in Burma, which was very tricky because of the military junta and the strict monitors they implied on all journalists.
During Pinochet’s regime in Chile, I secretly filmed rebel child soldiers for Dutch TV.
In the early eighties, I made a film in Nepal for a Dutch NGO about local environmental problems. All of my films were shown on Dutch Television and some were selected for film festivals.
Years later, I sat down for three months and wrote a script for a film on spirituality in general. Psychic phenomena were not yet part of the script at that stage.Yet it became the basis of my film about parapsychologists and scientists investigating psychic phenomena. During the next seven years, off and on, I worked on the script and had started shooting subjects that might fit the documentary. Meanwhile, I made five documentaries on consignment for Dutch TV. From 2006 onwards I worked full-time on the film,“Something unknown is doing we don’t know what.”
2. What is “the big five?” And why have they been categorized as such? Which of the categories most fascinated you and why?
Psycho-kinesis (mind affecting solid objects without the use of physical force).
My view? Yes, there is scientific evidence for these five psychic abilities but I found many lingering mysteries too and my unquenchable thirst for explanations set me off on a journey to discover what I could about these five mysterious abilities.
For me, of course, all the subjects fascinated me but the one that I had already experienced personally and that really intrigued me was the mind-to-mind connection or ‘Telepathy’.
For me it was so obviously present, this true subconscious energy and power of our mind and inter-personal connections, this wasn’t just coincidence.
Healing through the strength of the mind was also something I have always believed strongly in.
3. Can you explain “crisis telepathy” and who experiences it most often and the theory behind why it is so?
My first telepathic encounter, with my father’s stroke is actually called, “Crisis Telepathy”. I only discovered years later, that this was not an unusual occurrence between loved ones at times of great crisis. I learned that people who know each other well most commonly experience telepathy and this was my experience too.
While living in South Africa, I encountered more communications of this kind with my two daughters, Laura and Lisa. We began to consider these mysterious connections that we shared as “normal”. It often happened that we somehow knew when the other was in need.
4. Can you explain a bit about the “mystical experience” or what Professor Charles Tart calls a “transpersonal experience” where a person experiences “oneness” with the whole of life and the Universe?
Does having a transpersonal experience change a person? How?
A “transpersonal experience “ is definitely life changing. A few seconds of a transpersonal experience can change the direction of a person’s life, while years of ordinary experiences may have no effect at all.
Someone who had just such an experience, and whose life took on a totally new direction thereafter, was Dr Edgar Mitchell, an aeronautical engineer and a world-famous American astronaut who subsequently went on to found IONS after his own transpersonal experience.
Tart taught me that a transpersonal experience is like an epiphany; where a person experiences being part of something much bigger than just their ordinary biological and social self. So, if someone feels as though they have contacted God or been ‘at one’ with the universe or unified with nature, or something like that, and it’s a real feeling – not just an idea – that’s what we mean by a ‘transpersonal’ experience.
5. What did you learn that surprised you most while interviewing or researching for the film/book?
It was such a great journey to meet these eloquent, friendly and intelligent people in the US, who had dedicated their lives to finding scientific evidence for the paranormal. In the future para-normal will be normal as we’ve always used our sixth sense to survive in the wilderness, and their value is in the opening of our eyes to a deeper meaning of life.
6. Have there been any new developments in the research or any conclusions reached about a theory for psi since you published the book/finished the film?
I occasionally read that new discoveries have been made providing evidence for the existenceof psi. I can also see that many more people have and are delving into the science behind it since the evidence is undeniably real. Of course as world population increases and our natural resources run increasingly scarce, interconnected consciousness, spirituality and psychic abilities grow stronger in times of crisis.
(Editor’s note: This is an interesting statement as I included a chapter in The Intuition Principle about how our psychic abilities have been warning us of impending ecological disaster but, we as a society have been ignoring our intuition on this for years…)
7. What, if any, is the value of psi research to society overall?
A better understanding and knowledge of psi research allows for a more connected society, it broadens knowledge in the sense of ‘interconnecting’ human beings as a whole.
I have found that the topic of paranormal psychology is becoming more popular in itself as personal conscious awareness becomes more pronounced and as the shift in mind-set in individuals becomes a clear direction for overall change.
8. Will there be a sequel to the film/book? And, what are you working on now?
There won’t be a sequel to this exact subject per say but I am currently busy with a new documentary (and/or series). A topic also based on mind power and if you understand this film and book and have the open-minded approach to the topic then this one too links with understanding the importance of personal transcend and initiates . I can’t say too much about my next documentary yet. It needs to stay a mystery until it has been completed.

Today, I’m excited to share submissions from Powered by Intuition readers about encountering the spirit of a deceased loved one.
These stories illustrate what I believe: We’re all connected in spirit and naturally intuitive. Each of these readers is a mediumistic in their own right. Communication with the spirit of a loved happens spontaneously and requires no preparation such as, the need to study psychic development or mediumship..
Their stories prove that the love that connects us to one another survives physical death and is all we need to receive a communication from the spirit world. Your loved ones want to let you know they are okay. They want to let you know they still love you and will always be with you. All you need to do is stay open to receiving their message.
These four personal encounters are great examples of the variety of ways your loved ones communicate their presence to you.
Seeing a spirit
When I was a young girl approximately 8 or 9 years old my favorite uncle passed away from a heart attack. I was devastated by his death, he was always the one who was there for my brother, sister and I. Our favorite ritual if you will, was heading down back to the lower part of our property to build a camp fire for roasting marshmallows and hot dogs. My uncle Bill would tell us stories, make us laugh and couldn’t get enough of those roasted marshmallows. Ha.
On the morning of the funeral, we all went to say our goodbyes to a great man. Upon walking up to the casket and looking at my uncle, I knew he was no longer there. The only thing I saw was an empty body, I knew his spirit had moved on. The hardest part was knowing I would never see him again, not in this life anyway. I went home and cried myself to sleep that night.
The following morning I awoke and sat up on the edge of the bed, when I looked up my uncle Bill was standing in the doorway looking down at me. There he was in his black pin stripe suit that he loved so well. I knew he came back to let me know that everything was alright and that his spirit would always be near.
I wasn’t able to tell my parents about this experience because I knew in my heart they would never believe me. We were taught that there are no such things as spirits or ghosts and of course would have been punished had we ever spoke of such things. I pray that parents of today will be more open and receptive of things their children see and hear. I can tell you from personal experience that there is a spirit world and it isn’t something to be feared.
Clairaudience – Hearing from the spirit world
A few years ago I was living in Florida and my aunt, who lived in Detroit area, was very ill and in the hospital. I was very close to her and my sister called to say she was dying. I immediately made a plane reservation to return to Detroit before she passed.
While on the plane I suddenly heard, “It’s all over now.”
Don’t know who said it to me but, it did not sound like her. When I landed my sister said she died and gave me the time 8:50 p.m. which was the exact time I had received the message.
While babysitting for my grandchild and doing my nails I heard my aunt, whom had passed say, “Bow, what in the world is going on?” I explained to her that she had passed and was now in the spirit world. She didn’t reply but, did not return to visit me again.
Smelling the presence of a spirit
My eldest son passed away 3 years ago.
It was my father`s 70th birthday recently.
We live 16,000 km apart on different continents & hemispheres.
They live in a mountainous area and don`t often have satellite reception.
I just sent a text message birthday wish.
Later that evening, in a specific area, I `smelled` my son’s scent.
A couple of days later it happened again.
I`m not sure, maybe it`s him making his presence known & acknowledging
this special time for his grandfather.
When my father died, I was very shocked, and there was one thing I was really sorry about. I felt I mistreated him in one way, on a specific occasion, and I really felt sorry for hurting him (emotionally).
It was maybe about a year after he had passed, that I had this dream:
I was in a graveyard of some kind, or larger field, other ‘people’ helpers were there (maybe angels), and then a floor door (or a door on the ground) opened, and out came my father, he came up the steps. I was so happy to see him, we hugged and embraced, and I told him, that I was so sorry about what happened, and that I didn’t want to hurt him. He told me, that all is fine, and that he had no hard feelings, and he completely understood, and didn’t take it personally. That all is well.
I was so relieved and so happy, and then we had to say goodbyes , and he had to go down those steps again and retreat under ground.
I wasn’t sad seeing him leave, it was all right.
I know he was fine and that all is well.
This very vivid dream helped me tremendously
I really believe he came and visited me from the other side…
I want to thank these wonderful Powered by Intuition readers for sharing their private stories with us. The more openly we share the more educated we all become on the topic of life after death and the survival of consciousness after physical death.
Encounters with the spirit world are not scary or spooky or unnatural. It’s just love doing what love does….reaching out and saying, “I miss you, I love you, I’m okay – just wanted you to know.”
When we die we leave our body behind but, not our intelligence nor ingenuity.
Do you see how these four spirits used different means of communicating with their loved ones? Have you ever encountered the spirit of a loved one? What happened. Share your story in the comments.

P.S. Learn more about how to open up your intuition and psychic abilities: Click here.
Read this article to learn the 13 signs of mediumistic abilities and see if you are a budding medium.
There are two types of mediums
A natural born medium and latent medium – one who develops their abilities later in life. Being a natural born medium means that your abilities presented themselves from childhood. A latent medium has the abilities but, they do not present themselves until later in life.
Developing psychic mediumship later in life is usually due to an inner transformation that triggers a spiritual awakening and search for more meaning in life.
Differences between intuition, psychic ability and mediumship
Every person is intuitive to a degree. Intuition is your own inner wisdom. It is a higher form of “instinct” and it is programmed into humans in order to avoid danger and so our species will survive.
Psychic ability is going outside of oneself and retrieving information.
A psychic can tap into the future or the past and has abilities such as “clairvoyance” which is seeing what cannot be seen with the physical eyes; “clairaudience” which is the ability to hear within the mind what cannot be heard with the physical ears; “clairsentience” which is the ability to experienceother people’s emotions and physical ailments; “claircognizance” which is clearly knowing something without knowing how you know.
All mediums are psychic but, not all psychics are mediums
A medium will have all of the previous abilities but, in addition, they will also have highly developed telepathic abilities that allow them to receive “mind to mind” communication from a deceased individual. They will be able to “see” and describe the deceased, “hear” words, names, phrases and sometimes complete sentences and, “feel” the presence or experience the feelings or pains/illnesses of the deceased individual and will describe all of this to you as it is given to them by the discarnate.
Here are some signs that you may be a medium. The sign applies to you whether it appeared in childhood or at a more mature age. You don’t have to have had all these things happen to you to be mediumistic:
1. As a child did you have a fear of the dark?Did you hear your name being called or see faces or shadows moving about your room? Did you need a nightlight in the room in order to sleep undisturbed and peacefully?
2. Were you aware of “feeling different” or not fitting in as a child and while growing up? Were you a bit of a loner and not a joiner? Did you feel mature or like “old soul” compared to your playmates? Did adults constantly remark on how “mature” you were? Do you recall knowing things but, not knowing how you knew?
3. Were you drawn at an early age to explore metaphysics, spirituality and religion? Were you always searching for answers to the “big” questions in life such as, “why are here?” and “what is the point of our lives?”
4. Were you or are you now visited by discarnate beings? Do you “see” spirits? Keep in mind that most of the time mediums “see” within the mind’s eye not with the physical eye although, this does occur.
5. You may not have been afraid of the dark but, were aware of spirits (or people – you may not have realized they were deceased) at a very young age. Did you have what your parents called an “imaginary friend? Did you tell them you “saw grandma?”
6. Are you sensitive to energy? Can you sense when someone walks into the room without turning around? Being aware of “presences” and sensing the “energy” change in your environment. Have you ever been “touched” or tapped on the shoulder by a spirit? Some mediums do not “see” or “hear” as much as they get much their information “clairsentiently” or “claircognizantly.”
7. Have you always had vivid dreams that you recall upon waking? Were the dreams sometimes precognitive – meaning they predicted some future event that came to pass? Were you visited by deceased relatives in these dreams? When you woke up did you feel as if they had really been there?
8. When you close your eyes did or do you see colors, faces and landscapes? Did you sometimes “see” in your mind’s eye that you are flying over changing landscapes or seascapes? Can you close your eyes and “see” what someone is wearing or doing? Can you “see” what their house looks like?
9. Have you had spontaneous out of body experiences? Were you able to look back and see your “body?” Did you hurdle through the blackness of space and pass by stars at incredible speeds? Did you encounter discarnate entities while out of your body?
10. Did you or do you sometimes blurt things out that you “heard” in your mind that you had no way of knowing that turn out to be true? Are you aware of “knocks, “raps,” or “hearing” whispers or people talking that you can’t make out, or can you recall hearing directives such as, “NO” or “STOP” or “DON’T GO THERE” throughout the course of your life, or a ringing in your ears quite often?
11. Did you or do you “see” symbols or colors around people?“Seeing” this way usually takes place within the mind’s eye not the physical eyes. Do you “see” for example, a hospital bed and then learn the next day this person was rushed to the hospital? Or, do you see colors in certain places on a person that you “understand” to mean certain things about them? You are seeing the person’s energy signature – their aura.
12. Have you ever been aware of how others felt emotionally or the pain they were experiencing in their body? Do your moods change when you are around others? Are you susceptible to picking up other people’s moods? If someone is angry are you agitated by their energy?
13. Have you ever held an object belonging to another person and gotten a strong sense about that person? Were you able to describe their personality or something they were going through? Reading objects is called “psychometry.” You have the ability to interpret the residual energy accumulated within or attached to an object from its owner.
If you regularly experience six, seven or more of these signs you are mediumistic and could develop your abilities further if you desire.
P.P.S. I am looking for stories from PbI subscribers who are regular folk, not psychics or mediums, who have seen the spirit of a loved one. I’d like to include them in an upcoming post. Subscribe to contact me and send your story. It could be included in the article. Thank you!
“Chakras are energy-awareness centers. They are the revolving doors of creativity and communication between spirit and the world.” –Michael J. Tamura
I’ve always been interested in the human energy field. Today I have the pleasure of introducing you to Jennifer Flint, The Aura Reader, to give us an in depth look at how to read auras – the human energy field.
How did you start reading auras?
I happened to be attending a psychic fair at a local metaphysical shop a while back, and had actually had my own aura photographed that day, so the subject was on my mind.
Just before I left, I was chatting with the owner of the shop and one of the employees. I laughingly joked that I could probably read their auras, and threw out what I thought were a couple of totally random colors for each of them.
To my surprise, they both looked at me strangely, and told me that I was correct. Later, one of them showed me her own aura photograph, and it was exactly as I had described it.
This got me thinking about the subject, and I began doing brief little readings for friends and family, which also seemed quite accurate. At this point I often didn’t even know what the colors I was seeing meant, and sometimes had to look them up in order to interpret them!
Later I made a new friend through her spiritual blog, and mentioned to her in passing that I seemed to have this odd little ability to read auras. She immediately asked me to read her, of course, which I did without even seeing her photograph.
When my assessment turned out to be correct, she asked me to read her husband and daughter as well, and then a couple of her friends, who came through with some rather startling and specific information.
At that point she suggested that I start offering aura readings through my blog, and that’s just what I did. The rest is history!
What is an aura?
Well, personally I would describe it as the energetic emanation of the body and soul, and more specifically the chakras, which are the energy centers of the various parts of the body.
The vibrations of the soul extend beyond the physical form in the same way that electromagnetic frequencies (EMF) can be measured outside an electrical wire, and for some reason I am able to perceive this output in terms of specific colors.
What does an aura look like?
This varies greatly from person to person, and probably from one aura reader to the next. I do find that most of the colors I see tend to correspond to the traditional colors and meanings of the seven major chakras, although there are some exceptions.
I know it’s common to think of the aura as an egg-shaped projection surrounding the body, but I don’t always view it that way. It’s more typical for me to see the chakras as separate “pieces” of the aura, in different shapes and sizes, and these symbols can often tell me something about what’s going on with each person, and what energetic blockages might need to be resolved.
I mainly read using photographs, and primarily by email, although I can do it in person as well. My aura readings are almost entirely intuitive, and most of it happens inside my head. In fact, my mother finds it amusing that I tend to look away from people when I’m reading them in person, in order to avoid being distracted by them visually.
I can sometimes “project” a person’s aura colors around them and view them that way, but the information is most likely still intuitive rather than truly visual. And it’s something I have to do deliberately, which is actually a benefit since I can also turn it off when I’m not working.
There are also some very subtle things I’ve taught myself to do with the muscles of my eyes in order to activate my intuitive abilities and enter alpha state, which is the brainwave pattern most conducive to psychic activity. These methods are a bit difficult to describe, but they seem quite effective.
Can anyone see an aura?
I will admit that I don’t really know, since until fairly recently I didn’t even realize that I could do it! So it may be a hidden ability that other people have as well.
It does seem to be a clairvoyant skill, so people with natural clairvoyant tendencies might have an easier time of it. My assumption is that anything is possible, though, if a person has a strong enough desire to learn the ability. I have definitely developed my own clairvoyant skills over the years, simply by practicing them in various ways.
Meditation is a hugely helpful tool in this regard, and it’s the first thing I always recommend to people who want to advance their intuitive abilities.
How does your synesthesia play into your seeing auras?
An example how a synesthetic person might associate a color to letters and numbers. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
Synesthesia is a rare but harmless cross-wiring of the brain that causes more than one sense to be combined. In my case, for example, I see all letters and numbers in very specific colors, and they often have genders and “personalities” too.
As a result, I’m very accustomed to perceiving people and objects in color where others might not, and assigning meanings to them as well. My guess is that this probably makes it easier for me to see the colors of the aura, and to interpret them too.
It’s hard to overemphasize how much having synesthesia “colors” my life, literally as well as figuratively. So it’s no surprise that the various hues of the aura would be an effective gateway for me to use in terms of applying my intuitive abilities.
Do you have any unusual/entertaining stories about reading auras you can share with us?
All sorts of intuitive information can show up during a reading, from health and emotional issues to mediumship. I am often amused by some of the odd bits of data that Source chooses to show me, and I am quickly learning that the stranger a piece of information seems to be, the more likely it is to be relevant.
For example, one repeat client contacted me recently because she was having a specific problem that she needed assistance with. So I headed for my studio and began to pull cards for her.
Now, in a previous reading, I had made contact with a deceased friend of hers from high school. I was able to identify him by name (Lenny), and gave many details about what he looked like, their relationship, symbols they used between them, and the way he had lived and died.
I haven’t given much thought to this person since then, so when I entered the studio to begin reading, I was surprised to have the feeling that Lenny was in there with me. When I had contacted him earlier, I had not had the sense that he was directly in my presence, but this time I did – I even got physical chills, which faded when I left the room, and resumed when I reentered it, as though he was waiting politely.
Mind you, I have had deceased loved ones show up many times in my readings, by name and specific appearance, but this was the first time the presence felt quite so – uh – present, as it were.
Since I was already aware of Lenny, I informed him mentally that if he wanted to impress his friend that he was really here, he would need to tell me something that I couldn’t possibly have known about him.
Immediately, I received the distinct impression of some sort of practical joke involving a bug. Not being sure quite what to make of this, I reported it to my client, who laughingly responded that at some point during their friendship she had had a fight with Lenny, and had placed a small insect into his mouth while he was sleeping.
I was able to describe the bug precisely, and even sent her a photo of a beetle very much like the one I saw. She confirmed that it was extremely similar, except that the actual insect was much smaller. But you can hardly blame Lenny for inflating its size, since it was his mouth it had been in!
As peculiar as this little reference was, it was something unique that they both clearly remembered (for obvious reasons). So it was an excellent way for Lenny to identify himself to my client, since this is probably not something that happens to the average person very often.
At the same time, he also mentioned ice cubes to me, which turned out to be very relevant to my client as well. Her two-year old daughter absolutely adores ice cubes, and they routinely bribe her with them when they want her to behave.
Furthermore, ice cubes had recently been shooting from their icemaker in an unexplainable fashion, and it may be that Lenny was trying to take credit for this activity too. They both seem to have quite the unique sense of humor!
Can you teach someone to see an aura? Yes~!
An exercise with a tips on how to see the aura:
1. Try and visualize the aura. lose your eyes in a quiet location, focus on your breathing, and call to mind an image of someone that you would like to try to read. Please make sure that you have that person’s permission, since to do otherwise would be an invasion of their privacy. You can even practice on your own aura, if you don’t have a willing participant!
2. Relax. In this relaxed state, try and project the image of the person in question onto an imaginary movie screen in your mind, and simply observe any colors that appear around them.
3. Pay attention. Notice also the strength, size, and shape of these colors, and any other impressions you may receive. If you are familiar with the chakras, you can scan them one by one to see how well they’re operating.
4. Review what you are seeing. Do they look bright, clear, and strong, or are there tinges of darkness or muddying in a particular area? This can indicate blockages in the energy flow that may need to be resolved.
Now, remember, this is an intuitive activity, so don’t be afraid to use your own intuition to interpret what you see. Your “color vocabulary” might be different from another aura reader’s, in the same way that no two people with synesthesia will ever see things in quite the same way.
